Whispering Way

The Whispering Way is an evil philosophy native to the Golarion setting of Pathfinder. Created for, if not by, liches and the most misanthropic of necromancers, it preaches about the superiority of undeath to life, and advocates the extinction of all life as a way of ending the "chaos" of living wants and needs. This twisted pseudo-religion has given rise to a dark secret society, also known as the Whispering Way, who exist mainly to form a network through which undeath-seekers and "kill 'em all" type necromancers can find each other, work with each other, share their findings and gain protection from the vast numbers of saner souls who would seek to kick their heads in rather than let them succeed.

The symbol of the Whispering Way is a Gagged Skull. Although its members sometimes worships omnicidal (or at least necromancy-focused) dark gods or arch-fiends - Orcus and Urgathoa are faiths that are particularly common to be "cross-pollinated" with the Whispering Way - the philosophy itself is secular and does not directly worship any particular deity. Ironically, it may find itself either allied with or opposed by faiths such as those of Kabiri and Zura; though the Whispering Way's position of undeath supremacists is enticing, the extinction of all life is something that any sane ghoul, vampire or other predatory undead who stops to think about it ultimately rejects; if all life ends, what are they supposed to eat?

The Whispering Way's philosophy, history, membership and methodology are extensively fleshed out in an article in the adventure "Broken Moon", part of the horror-focused "Carrion Crown" adventure path. This same article also features a representative prestige class; the [Agent of the Grave].
