Everyone comes from somewhere. Character's Background dictates where they hail from, and how it affected their formatting years. Background provides three things - first, 5 points worth of Skills. Second, it grants access to a list of Quirks, and player can select one of them. Third, it also reduces cost of acquiring some of the Advantages
Death World[edit]
You come from a world where everything and their dog tries to kill you, eat you, or at least maim you (or sometimes, all of the above). People from such worlds tend to be rather tough, paranoid, and quite trigger-happy, but there is not much things left in the galaxy that they wouldn't be able to kill if needed.

You come from a world dedicated to Cult Mechanicus. While most laborers never leaves these planets, Quite some members of the Cult does, to search for new technologies, undiscovered STC fragments, and spread Omnissiah word.

Hive World[edit]
You come from one of the ginormous hive cities on the planet that consist of human population and not much more. People from such worlds might not be as tough as Death World denizens, but difference is not too great, as they are used to only slightly different predators - namely, bipedal ones.

Schola Progenium[edit]
You were trained in the Imperial school for kids orphaned by parents serving Imperium in any way. Since iternal reforms initiated by new Inquisitorial fraction, which greatly increased its schooling capabilities, adepts of Schola are not only Commisars, Stormtroopers and Sororitas - among their rranks are new bureaucrats, potential officers and commanders of both Guard and Navy, and many, many more.

Voidborn[edit]
Not everyone comes from a planet - you were born on the voidship. And grew there. Apart from being rather tall and thin (lack of true gravity will do that to you), people coming from void flotillas tend to be quite tech-savy, especially in all matters related to their voidships, and quite self-reliant - and that is never looked upon with understanding by Imperial authorities.
