Not the kind of lava cake you wish to meet on a dining table

"V: Sienna, I believe it would help your trial if you showed intent to go back to the College. Are there really none there who hold your respect?
S: Gormann, perhaps. And we all know what happened to him, don't we?
V: A wizard's duel, wasn't it?
S: Gelt cheated. A Gold Wizard always knows how to place a bribe."

Sienna Fuegonasus & Victor Saltzpyre

Before there was gold, there was fire. Before there was a certain moola-waving bilk, there was a seven feet tall, ballsy, sword-swinging, firebolt-blasting wizard. Little is known about Thyrus Gormann, but before the arrival of Balthazar Gelt, the pyromancer used to be the Supreme Patriarch of the Empire's Colleges of magic. Gormann remained in his office for at least three periods, much to the dismay of other candidates who left the duelling hall with nasty scorches and bruised egos. Alas, after decades of torching competitors and burning his initials in the Empire's enemies armies, a young magician with a bounty on his head arrived in Altdorf and challenged the Supreme Patriarch. After some serious scarfing and lead-throwing, Gormann was defeated. Not dead, but incapacitated, the fire-wizard surrendered and stepped back from his office. Despite no longer holding the office of Supreme Patriarch, Gormann still is a trusted advisor to the Emperor Karl Franz. He has mixed feelings about the challenger who defeated him - Balthazar Gelt - respecting his ability but eager to challenge him again and take back his position.

Tabletop Stats[edit]

Thryus actually did get stats for Warhammer Fantasy Battles in 6th edition: Movement 4, Weapon Skill 4, Ballistic Skill 3, Strength 4, Toughness 4, Wounds 3, Initiative 4, Attacks 2, Leadership 9

He costs 500 points and comes with a Barded Warhorse by standard, though he can also walk to lower his points by -21 down to 479. He's a Level 4 Wizard who knows ALL the spells of the Lore of Fire.

He has the Special Rule Fire Lord, which boosts his castings of Fire Ball (does d6+1 Hits), Fiery Blast (does 2d6+2 hits), and Conflagration of Doom (starts with D6+1 hits, Thryus rolls D6+1 to beat his opponent's score each time).

Finally, he comes with the following Magic Iems:

  • The Bright Sword: This magic sword auto-casts Flaming Sword of Rhuin on Thryus at the beginning of each player's turn. If this spell is successfully Dispelled, Thyrus simply loses the benefits of Flaming Sword until the start of his next turn, when it casts the spell on him again. Obviously, Thyrus can't cast Flaming Sword on himself with his own Power Dice due to this effect; they can't stack.
  • The Firebrand Staff: Thyrus adds +12" to the Range of all Lore of Fire spells he casts. This even lets him cast Flaming Sword of Rhuin on friendly Characters within 12". You can swap it out for the Staff of Volans for +70 points, to represent him during his reign as Supreme Patriarch.
  • The Fire Stone of Agni: It's a Power Stone that can be used once per bearer's Magic Phase instead of once per battle.
  • The Blazing Ruby: Thryus has a 5+ Ward save.

The End Times[edit]

Teamed up with Hans Leitdorf in 'Return of Nagash'. Initially he was inspecting Heldenhame Keep and joined Hans in riding out against Arkhan the Black while Manfred outflanked them and stole Nagash's armour. He the joined in the subsequent battle when Malagor's beastman horde had a crack at the weakened defenders.

Following this he accompanied Hans to Altdorf where the two parted ways, with Gormann heading north after the Emperor, possibly intending to interrogate Gelt about the efficacy of his wall around Sylvania.

After that, not much is mentioned about our fiery boi, as he is said to have “mysteriously disappeared”, which is likely code for he was forgotten about. Given that the planet is fucked, it’s safe to say he is no longer with us.

Age of Sigmar[edit]

OR IS IT?, It turns out our fire mage may have been resurrected as one of Sigmar's Stormcast Eternals as a member of the Hallowed Knights Stormhost going by the name Tyros Firemane (now keep in mind that the oldest of the members of the Stormcast Eternals use nicknames because they cannot remember their past lives), having developed a kind of friendship with the also resurrected Balthasar Gelt (now going by Balthas Arum) in a very heartwarming rivals-gone-friends trope.

Now while most Lord-Arcanum's (SE Wizards) are just attuned to the Winds of Azyr, some of them actually expand their mystic abilities to other winds, or, in the case of Tyros and Balthas, are reborn with those abilities learned, almost like the respective winds recognize them from eras past, in the case of Tyrus this is obviously the red wind of Aqshy.
