The Eternal Light is the name given by the Order of Eternal Light to the divinity of the sun, rather than an anthropomorphic deity of the sun, introduced in issue #340 of Dragon Magazine.
The Order[edit]
The order follows eight principal tenets, also called "The Gifts", that form the core of the religion. These are: Hope, Inspiration, Justice, Life, Order, Reason, Station, and Wisdom. Every member of the faith attempts to incorporate the tenets to their lives. They believe that the sun can give good omens through its favored beasts, the hawk and the lion, and that gold dragons are the suns emissaries.
The church, despite seeming united, an image the church wishes to keep, is split into two main groups, the Resplendents and the Caretakers. The Resplendents are mostly filled with paladins and monks and tend toward Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral. They strive to live up to the core tenets, believing them to be the core of the faith. The Caretakers tend towards Lawful Evil and Lawful Neutral, and emphasize Justice, Order, and Station more than the other Gifts. They're also chauvinists, believing that women cannot be imparted with the Gift of Reason, and that men are more fit to be priests.
