Hiddukel is the God of Greed and Treachery from the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Dragonlance. A cunning, calculating and predatory being, Hiddukel often disguises his true intelligence behind the veil of fawning fumbler of a merchant.

Obsessed with wealth and power, Hiddukel demands cunning and avarice from his followers; the innocent deserve only to be exploited. Such is his love of deceit that he actively applauds those followers of his who dare to try and betray or outwit him - although failure is sternly punished.

His most holy day is the Day of Bartered Souls, when his clerics must present him with a tally of corrupted and ruined victims; an insufficiently impressive tally earns his wrath.

As the Goddess of Wealth, Shinare absolutely despises Hiddukel, and the enmity is mutual. There is also much bad blood between Hiddukel and Reorx, and Hiddukel's avarice is notable for its staining of the souls of Reorx's beloved dwarves.

Hiddukel is an also-ran in Ansalon, holding much more influence over northern island-continent Taladas. The empire of Thenol venerates him as "Hith", and he controls the massive lava ocean in the centre of the continent (as "Hiteh"). He's setting himself up as the champion of humanity against oppressors, especially the Apartheid Elves in Armach.

Dogma[edit]

Greed is the driving force in the world. Those who deny that they love money are lying. Nothing in the world is as important as wealth. Acquire riches, no matter who or what stands in your way. Lies give the truth meaning. Discover someone's deepest desire, and you will find the key to his soul.
