Hekaton Land Fortress

With wheels that small, it is a wonder how this thing manage to stop itself from rolling over.

One XBAWKS HUEG Heavy Support unit for the Leagues of Votann, the Hekaton Land Fortress fills the role of both a transport for the Kin as well as putting out a serious amount of heavy fire support, until it has to drive over a small rock that is, at which point it will comically fall over sideways because it's so top-heavy and its wheels are so teeny-tiny. (Although irl Moon Trucks does sport designs like this (2020 new moon rover for one), albeit with more proportioned wheels.) Of course comparisons have also been made to the TMNT Party Wagon.

If you're looking for the joke where someone says it weighs a "heckin ton", this is it.

Overview[edit]

The Hekaton Land Fortress is classified as the Leagues' main battle tank. Yes. MAIN. BATTLE. TANK. Which makes us wonder how big their actual superheavies are. Granted, in terms of functions, it behaves more akin to the Land Raider; a heavy IFV meant to support other ground forces and relieve them of pressure.

Because of its relatively voluminous internal dimensions, the Hekaton is able to transport a respectable 12 Hearthkyn Warriors. While ferrying troops across the battlefield is an important duty in its own right, the Hekaton is also a battle tank in its own right. Land Fortresses are heavily armed, equipped with weapons such as the Cyclic Ion Cannon, Heavy Magna-Rail Cannon, SP Heavy Conversion Beamer, MATR Autocannon, and smaller mounts for Bolt Cannons and Ion Beamers for point defence. Its Pan Spectral Scanner can be traded out for a variety of Missile Launcher options, including the haywire Ancestor's Vengeance Warhead, anti-armor Mountain Breaker Warhead, or anti-infantry Kin's Wrath Warhead. For protection, they are equipped with Void Armour. Hekaton's are driven by a Kin driver and an Ironkin co-driver.

Crunch[edit]

A pretty goddamned impressive fan cut-out of the Hekaton from China. Link to source is here.

Crunchwise, the Hekaton is currently the toughest vehicle in the league armoury with 16W, a toughness of 8, and a 2+ void armour save. M10-6" and a BS that starts at 3 before degrading.

Offensively, the Hekaton packs multiple ap -2, 2 Damage weapons. Each comes stock with a Cyclic Ion Cannon (24" Heavy 3D3 S8 AP2 D2), a MATR Autocannon (24" Heavy 6 S7 AP2 D2), and 4 Bolt Cannons (36" HunTR 2 S6 AP2 D2). They also have a Spectral Scanner that grants the Scanner keyword and lets them ignore light cover.

The Hekaton is also very flexible and swap friendly, as one can swap the standard layouts. This includes swapping 2 or 4 of the bolt cannons with Ion Beamers (18" HunTR 2 S7 AP-2 D2, BEAM), replacing the Cyclic Ion Cannon with either an SP Heavy Conversion Beamer (30" HunTR 2 s8 ap3 D4, Beam, scores an additional hit if a unit that was hit was wholly outside 15") or a Magna Rail Cannon (36" Heavy 1 S14 AP4 D:2D3+6, Magna-Rail), and replacing the Spectral Scanner with a one-use, 36" non-LOS VLS launcher that shoots out the following:

  • Ancestor's Vengeance (Heavy D6 S6 AP2 D2, when used against a vehicle, has a Damage of 3, and a wound-roll of 4+ always wound, and specifically not-Blast).
  • Kin's Wrath (Heavy 2D6, S 6 AP2 D1, blast).
  • Mountain Breaker (Heavy 1, S10 AP3 6D).

Likewise, in terms of its tactical utility, it is capable of carrying the aforementioned 12 INFANTRY models, but could also accommodate those with Exo-Armour at the expanse of taking 2 slots, with the Exo-Frames taking 3 slots.

In terms of other stats, to return to its impressive 16 W, it translates to having the Hekaton having more wounds than a Russ; equivalent to a Repulsor Executioner or a god damned Land Raider, but less than a Daemon Primarch and some Tyranid Monsters. This is a heavy transport and should be played as such, but with Void Armor making it so that an unlucky opponent cannot re-roll wounds or unlucky damage rolls of 1 or 2, it will be a lot harder to fully destroy than a Repulsor.

A Brôkhyr Iron-Master or Forgemaster is a natural pairing with the Hekaton. They can boost the ballistic skill of its numerous weapons, repair it, and (in the case of the Forgemaster's warlord trait) negate a failed save each battle round. Overall, a god damned monster of an IFV/MBT hybrid.
