And I thought the turret was big before!

For a paltry 2 points each, you get up to 3 platforms with enough firepower to make an Ork blush. The Chieftain Marksman is the Gepard's cannons on a platform with heavier armour, better stats and for half a point less per model! Like the Gepard, these beasts won't struggle make their points back many times over.

However, for those of you using the mission matrix, one concern is that Marksmen have FA6 and therefore trigger deep reserves. Essentially, you'll have to pick between these guys and a platoon of tanks or flight of aircraft if you are playing a defensive British force (so, like, every British force?).

Averaging the same AA firepower per point as the Rapier, the Marksman will make pact infantry and IFV companies soil themselves in terror. 15 shots at AT:11 and FP:4+ is all but guaranteed to pin infantry or wipe out the equivalent points in IFVs. The lack of HEAT also means they can scare tanks from the side.

At 6 points for 3 tanks, there's no reason you shouldn't take a battery of these monsters.

IRL[edit]

Like the American's Sergeant York, the Chieftan Marksman is a fictional takeoff of a real-world weapon system. The Marksman Anti-Aircraft System was a project developed by Marconi to sell to the British Army, or whoever else wanted a knockoff Gepard turret to mount on spare tank hulls. Unlike the Sergeant York however, the Marksman was never purchased by the British, and was only ever sold to the Finns, who mounted it on T-55s until the 2010s, when they swapped them onto the now-venerable Leopard 2 instead.

Presumably, the escalating tensions in the Team Yankee-verse led the British Army to reconsider, and start mounting them on old Chieftans as they were being retired from frontline service.
