Background[edit]

One of the strange casteless lunars who exhibit the bizarre powers of the chimerae, Janos's reasons for refusing moonsilver tattoos date back to when he was a member of a powerful circle of solars and casteless lunars who grew immensely powerful by harnessing the powers of Deep Chaos. His bond to his solar mate was strong, and despite their adventurous existence, all he cared about was protecting her and making her happy.

Beyond harboring chimerae protectors, this circle further antagonized the Silver Pact by having raided the holdings of the Queen of Fangs, the powerful Silver Pact sorceress who had created moonsilver tattoos to begin with, and one of the last First Age lunars in existence. Clearly, something had to be done.

Perhaps they acted in unthinking ignorance. Perhaps they reasoned that the forces of Oblivion were the greatest threat possible to the greater evil of the Deep Chaos. But when Janos's circle prepared to strike at the Mound of Forsaken Seeds, the stronghold of a great and terrible Deathlord, they were shadowed by quicksilver celestial battle armor and warstriders. When the horde of necrotech monstrosities, nephwracks, and amalgams charged at them from all directions, the protean warriors in the shining machines emptied their Essence Cannons at Janos's party. They never had a chance.

Still, Janos managed to help his love to what he thought was safety. Not yet realizing what had happened, he scrabbled up a cliff while the monsters below snarled up at them. For a moment he was glad to see exalts in moonsilver having arrived, surely, to save them, but the thunder of the Essence Cannons sent them both falling off the cliff, into the waiting arms of the beasts below. He fought like a man possessed, but he helplessly watched as the chittering horrors dragged away the only woman who had ever loved him away into the Mound, while the rotting beasts pinned him and tore at his flesh.

After she was out of sight, a hellish battle between the faceless, shining lunars who had doomed his friends, and the abominations of the Dowager ensued. In the chaos, he found a No Moon crippled by the beast's insidious attacks, and beat him to death with his sledgehammer, dragging away the armored corpse.

Now living with his recently rescued little sister (a story in its own right), he believes that he'll soon be strong enough to get his revenge on both. EDIT: The Silver Pact and the Dowager, not on his little sister. To this day, he does not know what happened to his mate.

Most of the time, Janos remains in his bizarre Deadly Beastman Form, above. However, for most of the time he can craft illusions to disguise himself as anyone he's ever seen.

Knacks[edit]

Deadly Beastman Transformation:5m committed, reflexive. Gain +1 natural to Strength, Dexterity, Stamina. Gain Mutations of Hideous Maw, Claws, Fangs, and Hooves. Activate all Gift charms.

Quicksilver Form:5m committed, simple action. Reduces entire body into a viscous material that flows effortlessly according to his will. In this form, the casteless can flow through any opening, no matter how small, although very tiny openings may take a long time to pass through. While in this form, he becomes more vulnerable to powerful blunt attacks than to cutting attacks. Treat lethal cutting damage as normal bashing damage, but double the pre-soak damage of all normal bashing attacks. Lethal damage that is not based on cutting attacks (fire, acid and the like) is treated normally; so is aggravated damage. Activating Quicksilver Form requires a commitment of five motes of Essence.

Towering Beast Form: May use larger animal sizes.

Mountainous Spirit Form: Apply Large mutation to spirit shape.

Charms[edit]

Claws of the Silver Moon: 3m committed, gift. Add +Dexterity to Accuracy of all natural weapons and Strength+2 to damage of all natural weapons, as well as Overwhelming equal to Essence+1; currently, this means +6 Acc, +8 damage.

First Dexterity Excellency:

Instinctive Dexterity Unity: 1wp, 8m, simple. Allows you to spend 4 points on Dexterity excellency for free on each roll.

Wasp Sting Blur: 2m per tick or commitment, Fury. Activated with Lunar Fury, reduces the speed of all attack actions by 1 for the duration.

Secure Cat Stepping: 1m, Fury. Activated with Lunar Fury, reduces the DV of all attack actions by one for the duration (so, normally, he doesn't take DV penalties in a fury).

Foot-Trapping Counter: 2m, Reflexive. Attempting to move away from the lunar requires a Dex+Athletics roll at a difficulty of the Lunar's Dexterity. Failure indicates he cannot move away from the Lunar until his next action. Does not function against reflexive retreat charms.

Rabid Beast Attitude: 1m, Reflexive, (Essence) actions. Reduce wound penalties by 1.

Thousand Claw Infliction: 1m, treat all rates as infinite until next turn.

Lunar Hero Form: 6m, Simple, not combo-OK, form-type, one scene. Reduce Defense Value penalties from onslaught by 1 and from coordinated attacks by two, double value (but not essence value) of stunts involving the Lunar employing trickery, agility or cunning in battle.

Ox-Body Technique: +4 health levels of -2.

Relentless Lunar Fury: 1m, 1wp, +2m/Fury charm activated (max 8): Add +1 automatic success to all combat actions, including attacks, resisting knockdown, and keeping balance during a fight, but does not alter DV. May spend 2m per Fury charm, max of (Essence), to activate them for the entire duration of Fury. -1 HLs become -0 for duration as well, ignores fatigue. Physical attribute excellencies become Attribute+Essence.

Snake Body Technique: 3m, 1wp, Reflexive, Counterattack. To strike at a Steward brings swift retribution. Bending and moving with a snake’s grace, the Lunar smoothly redirects an attack back toward its instigator. The attacker must be within the character’s Melee or Martial Arts range. The Lunar may dodge into a blow and then shove the blade into her opponent or scamper through her foe’s legs so he shoots himself in the foot—good stunts are the nature of this Charm.

    Using this Charm allows the character to ignore all penalties to her defense against a single attack. As long as the character can successfully dodge or parry the attack, she

counterattacks by forcing her enemy to suffer his own attack. Counterattack resolution begins in Step 7, as every success the attacker’s player rolled is applied to his own soak. Any effects that would have taken place had the attack hit the Lunar affect the attacker. Also, the Lunar may use Charms or other supernatural powers to affect the damage as if she had started the attack (though they must be legally useable—either scenelong or in a Combo with Snake Body Technique).

Armor-Rending Claw Fist: 4m, Simple (Speed 5), Combo-OK. With either a single swipe or a flurry of blows, the Lunar’s attack moves so quickly that it tears through even steel armor as though it were paper. This attack target’s a foe’s armor, rather than the person wearing it. Only soak from armor reduces the attack’s raw damage, and (unlike normal attacks) this can reduce the attack’s dice to zero. Then, roll unsoaked damage normally. Each level of damage remaining in Step 10 of attack resolution reduces the armor’s soak (bashing and lethal). Mundane armor remains damaged until repaired; armor constructed from the magical materials recovers its full soak value at the end of the scene. When a target’s soak from armor drops to zero, the Lunar may rend the target’s natural soak. The Lunar looses blows so rapid they weaken the victim’s body through and through; each success rolled on damage reduces the target’s effective Stamina by one. This only affects the target’s soak values, not any other aspect of health.

Janos's Limit Break takes the form of the Curse of the Whipped Dog. However, there's almost no actual difference between his behavior while in Limit Break and when not.

Sensory Augmentation Visor: As a reflexive action, the wearer gains a +2 bonus to Awareness. Alternatively, the wearer can reflexively activate Essence sight for three motes per scene, and also becomes able to see dematerialized and enchanted objects (including walking dead and automatons) as glowing presences.
