It has earned this name from the many people that have lost their lives in the past through the years: rumor has it that the pass, and indeed the whole of the Mountains of Regret, are haunted.

*'''Makaimura''', the Spirit Village, is a small farming community that mostly trades with the City of Remembrance. The village is lively and pleasant, despite its ominous name.

*'''Omoide no Toshi''', the City of Remembrance, is the closest urban center this side of the pass. Famous for being the place where the legendary samurai-ko Matsu Hitomi spent the last day of her life centuries ago, it is said that some of the inhabitants still keep the secret of her final actions in this world. Beyond it, the Road of the Golden Coast leads to Shiba Shiro and Isawa Kyuuden, seats of the Phoenix's temporal and mystical power.
