Background

Pre-Exaltation

500 years before the Usurpation, a boy was born in the South. He was not royalty, but his parents were important mortals in the lower government of the kingdom and the boy was given the best education his parent's money could buy.

The boy was bored by the painting and music lessons, and by the history and math lessons. He found himself more at home in the outdoors or social gatherings. The boy, named the Loveless Wanderer of a Thousand Roads, always enjoyed parties. It wasn't exactly the socializing, just the atmosphere. He liked watching people talk and dance, judging which ones he liked the most before talking to them.

However, when not attending parties or political functions, something he also enjoyed, because he was quite the good speaker; he spent all his time outdoors. Horseback riding, sailing, hunting; anything that would get him dirty and injured was a good thing. He spent some time in the military before leaving for politics, where he proved quite popular. During one of the small and insignificant wars the Exalted paid no attention to, the ones fought almost as sport, Wanderer did the only sensible thing a young politician could do. He went to war. Unfortunately, he was assigned to a squad that wasn't very good, to say the least. He quickly found himself detached from the rest of the army, and hunted by a small battalion of troops.

Three men fell in the initial attack, two more to dehydration, and one was lost when they were found for the first time. This left only two people left; Wanderer and his commander. The two survived in the harsh deserts on snakes and lizards, scrounging what water they could; however little. When trying to catch one of these snakes, the commander got bit. As he lay dying a short while later, he handed Wanderer the badges of his rank; giving him a field promotion to captain. For all that was worth, he joked.

The captain died, and Wander salvaged anything he could from the captain's pack. He didn't like it, but it had to be done. Some o the most valuable things in the pack where some firedust grenades. They were old, and the primers were probably expired, but he took them anyway.

He spent the next two and a half days in a hole he had dug, covered in sand; hoping that he wasn't exposed at all, and if he was, hoping the sand coloured clothing was enough to deter his discovery. The hole was not very far from an oasis, one he had stumbled upon with the captain. They saw their pursuers drinking from it, so they hastily retreated. He dug it right before sundown, when the sand was still slightly warm. The young man hoped to all the gods that would listen he would not be found.

He wasn't. So he sat in the hole for two and and a half days, listening to the sounds of the desert for the enemy unit. Eventually, just around the hottest portion of the day, he heard them. Wanderer waited until he was just right, and then pulled the trigger of his firewand; the barrel of which was the only exposed part of him and his gear.

The fire hit the trap perfectly, the grenades exploding in an inferno of flame. Wasting no time, he drug himself up from the sand, and readied his bayonet for all the survivors. There were none. He sat down, falling back into his hole. Wanderer stayed there, eyes closed, for what seemed like forever. He was struck from his revelry by a voice. “Are you going to check to make sure they're all there? They might have been just a small party sent for water.”

Exaltation

Wanderer darted upright, and pointed his improvised spear at the tall southern man in robes of white and silver. He laughed, and pushed the bayonet away. “No need, I already counted them. You did a good job. Care for a drink?” He held up a drinking gourd. Wanderer took it, and gulped down as much as his mouth could hold before swallowing. As he drank, he felt himself getting stronger and less tired. He felt like he'd just woken up in his own bed. Not wanting to drink all the traveler's water, he handed it back to him. “Good bye, my son. May the light of the moon guide you for the rest of your life.” The White Navigator walked away from Wanderer, almost into the fire before he lost the man in the heat shimmer.

Pre-Exaltation to Usurpation

The newly Exalted Wanderer, using a (only slightly charred) map, found among the corpses, headed north. He hoped that the crude x-shaped mark on the map was the oasis. Well, to this day he still doesn't know, but he eventually found a city none the less. It was not one he was familiar with, but luckily there was a Full Moon there to escort him away. Good thing it took him almost a week, but it felt like only a day or two to Wanderer.

Wanderer got the same basic training all Lunars got, and as his caste fixed itself into the Waxing Moon, he got the training all the Waxing Moons would get. As befitting of one of the Exalted, he found his life didn't change so much as every facet of it was enhanced to the highest degree. Gone were the days of small-town politics, now he held a seat in the Deliberative. Instead of hunting foxes and bears, he hunted demons. Personally, his favourite hunt was the one that resulted in a teodojzia form.

As a passionate, cunning, and shrewd speaker, he stayed quite close to Meru. It was a short trip from his estate to the Deliberative, although he did maintain an oceanfront property in the South he shared with his Mate, and a small cottage in the East for his hunting trips.

Wanderer was a well liked Lunar, but he as a tad reclusive and only made friends among a a select group of Lunars, a few Solars, and his dragon-blooded aide. He always enjoyed meeting Sidereal Exalted, but was not quite high ranking enough to get that chance regularly.

Post-Usurpation to Modern Day

So, when a Sidereal Exalted invited the entire Celestial Exalt body to a grand feast, imagine his surprise. And then imagine his surprise when they started attacking him. Always having a bit of a physical streak, harking back to his days hunting in the South, he managed to escape with some difficulty. Like so many other Lunars, the Waxing Moon went off to the Wyld and activated the charm that allows a Lunar to hibernate.

Luckily, he was found not too long after things had died down, so he wasn't that mentally deranged. Seeing the tattoos of the new Lunars that found him, he decided that maybe it was a good idea to get the sanity-inducing tattoos. However, finding out his caste was broke, he got the replacement.

After learning to blend into the new society post-Usurpation, he started rebuilding. Forging new connections to replace those lost, creating several economic ventures in various places in the Threshold , and getting back to his life. But the one he loved the most was the Southern one, not too far from where he once lived. It had a small militia (to support the Realm garrisons and make work easier for them, because he wanted an ally to the realm), something Wanderer loved. The pack mentality of a well-trained army appealed to him so much, it was why he joined the army all those years ago.
