The Gore Suns

"Sire?"
"Merely an ancient Terran saying my son, though perhaps I may sleep easier now knowing my Suns are truly in good hands."

The Gore Suns are a Codex-divergent Space Marine Chapter and are one of the last Void Angels successor chapters established in the Third Founding. They are known for taking their Genefather Gaspard Lumey's terror tactics to what they say is its logical end, but what other chapters have described as: "blatant exercises in recreational sadism."
Chapter History
Inaugurated into service during the Third Founding, the Gore Suns were soon enveloped in controversy when it came into public knowledge that the Chapter numbered a measly 500 marines. Whether by the machinations of the Chaos Gods, massive bureaucratic oversight, or some nefarious scheme by those involved in the Founding itself, only five hundred aspirants chosen from Cyrthahl remained. No neophytes remained, all missing entirely. Only the boys selected for training were left untouched, all still behind puberty. This mystery only stoked the fires of the rumor that there were those high up in the Void Angels hierarchy who placed no faith in someone like Serennus to lead an entire Chapter of marines, if not only to their deaths. That they had actually taken steps to limit his expected failure. To ensure that the amount of gene-seed lost on preparing a Chapter for him would be limited to only half of the total failure's projection.
Of course, investigations were launched by the Inquisition to pursue every avenue of possibility. Even going so far as to demand all records regarding the Chapter's Founding to be handed over. Mired by gossip and hounded by investigators at every turn, the Gore Suns were banished like their predecessors to the Galactic Fringe where they busied themselves with making sure that their name would grow to be feared by ever Xeno they encountered. The Gore Suns would rush back to stand with their Brothers for the first time against WAAAGH! The Beast, unable though to fill their ranks with the investigation of the missing Gene-Seed still underway. The Gore Suns still remained numbering only less than half those of their fellow chapters. This would actually prove to be the Gore Suns salvation as even Chapter Master Tumawl would not give his detractors the pleasure of watching him annihilate his Chapter against The Beast and so devoted the Chapter completely into a fire-support role while his Scouts and the thousands of Cyrthahlans left over from the Gene-Seed debacle, now highly trained saboteurs, sappers, and assassins penetrated deep behind enemy lines to wreak havoc on Ork infrastructure.
After the WAAAGH!, the Inquisition formally dropped its charges against the Gore Suns. But did not close the case entirely, and allowed them to take on Neophytes once more. The harvest from Cyrthahl was manic, and the Gore Suns would become the fastest Chapter to recover from the W!TB. Soon they would be tasked with retaking and solidifying the Imperium's claim on nearly all the worlds ravaged by the Greenskin Tide. It is here where they brought pride to their name for the first time, advancing forth across multiple systems with ruthless efficiency.
Notable Campaigns
Unlike all other Space Marine Chapters involved, the Gore Suns suffered comparatively little during WAAAGH! The Beast. As they young Chapter was still only at half strength during the massive Ork invasion. They could not bring to bear the amount of manpower most Chapters were throwing into the Ork Warboss' meat grinder. Though the Gore Suns had fought in multiple skirmishes and battles with various Xenos; WAAAGH! The Beast would be the first time human auxiliaries were recorded fighting alongside the Suns. Especially the Scouts of the 10th Company with whom they engaged in numerous joint operations and raids on Ork supply lines, "faktohrees", communications facilities, and assassination attempts deep behind enemy lines on Ork field commanders.
The Gore Suns' refusal to break themselves against WAAAGH! The Beast like so many other Chapters is a sore point in their history that many have claimed is the reason for the Suns' current brutality and cruelty, as if they were atoning - for what even the Suns now consider a pragmatic though difficult decision - through their hideous actions against any enemies they now face. Gore Suns veterans and even Chapter Master Tumawl himself has categorically denied these accusations of "leniency" and has stated that the Suns have always committed these atrocities, just not at the scale they are capable of now with the Chapter at full strength.
Notable Members
Dreadnought Chapter Master Serennus Tumawl
Once Serennus was just a veteran Void Angel at the time of his Chapter's Founding. He rose to prominence throughout the Great Crusade, survived the Hektor Heresy, and would be involved in the subsequent Scouring.
Only a newly annointed Space Marine on the outset of the Crusade, Tumawl set himself apart towards the end of the Core Worlds Campaign when, as one of many tasked by his Primarch to execute the aristocracy of the newly surrendered worlds, he inflicted grotesque and public spectacles broadcasted planet-wide. After being rebuked for his actions and fading once again into the background of the massive Void Angels Legion for some time, Tumawl once again tore his way into the spotlight throughout the Heresy and the Great Scouring by carrying out the same drawn-out butchering of his enemies. Particularly at the Battle of Rai. Serennus Tumawl, for all his accomplishments during his long and storied career as a Space Marine still endured terrible injuries battling myriad Xenos and Traitors. Entombed in a Dreadnought, Serennus now leads his Gore Suns only in times of war.
Gherryck Nyrsul
6th Company Captain and current "Acting Régent" in Serennus Tumawl's stead, Nyrsul is a master at rapidly adapting the Gore Suns' tactics and strategies in the face of ever-changing battlefield conditions. Even in the most chaotic of engagements. Nyrsul sports three long-service studs (the third just recently earned) and governs the Chapter outside of battle ,or to be more correct, whenever the Chapter is en route to its next foe. Nyrsul personally leads the Gore Suns in battle on his bike, as heavily modified and upgraded as his own suit of artificer armor, whenever the enemy is deemed too unworthy to awaken Chapter Master Tumawl. A situation some of the Chapter Command has noted is beginning to happen with concerning regularity.
Chapter Combat Doctrine
Primarily deployed against rebellious or outright traitorous Imperial or prospective Imperial worlds, the Gore Suns take the terror tactics taught by their Primarch to the next level. Not only do the Gore Suns infiltrate enemy advance troops to horribly slaughter high ranking officers, they also slip into some of their auxiliary forces to foster dissent and insurrection among the populace. Often times training and supplying terror cells to spread mayhem within the planet. The planet's forces now divided and distracted by world-wide uprisings and revolts, their communications arrays, weapons and munitions factories, and any other important strategic facilities suddenly being hammered by the joint forces of the Gore Sun's advance troops, auxiliaries, and these aforementioned terror cells.
Finally, the Gore Suns make planet-fall en-masse and immediately sweep away the enemy leadership with an overwhelming combined arms assault by air forces and heavily mechanized infantry. The deaths of enemy leaders - from PDF officers to the Planetary Governor himself - are always drawn-out, torturous, and broadcasted throughout the non-compliant world. This ensures that what little left of who are still willing to fight are completely lacking in the ability to do so; their deaths however are anything but and are also made to be broadcasted pageants of butchery. Despite their Modus Operandi, the Gore Suns are still celebrated for the fact that when they are finished a world is for all intents and purposes guaranteed never again to turn from the Imperium.
Chapter Beliefs
The Gore Sun's one unifying belief other than the innate superiority of man to any other life-form, as well as the Imperial Creed, is the idea of the Gore Sun from which they derive their name. On occasion, the sun orbiting their homeworld of Cyrthahl takes on a blood red color which all the diverse people groups take as an omen promising them streams, lakes, rivers, seas, oceans of their enemies' blood as the red light colors the planet's water. So too does every Gore Sun consider themselves an omen, a promise of the oceans of Traitor and Xeno blood spilled in the Emperor's name.
Chapter Homeworld
The Gore Sun's homeworld of Cyrthahl is most aptly described as an island planet as no land mass is large enough or for that matter intact enough to be considered a continent. The thousands upon thousands of islands have bred, primarily based on the islands distance from the planet's equator and the resulting environment, hundreds of tribal, ethnic, cultural, and religious groups among the planet's people. This has proved wonderful for the Gore Suns as it ensures enough differences for the world to be in a constant state of war, producing some of the Galaxy's most vicious warriors for the Gore Suns to cull from as well as a fairly high technological base (mainly where it concerns weapons and medicine) as the planet's various groups are in a continuous arms race with each other at all times.
Chapter Appearance
In combat, the Gore Suns are virtually indistinguishable from a Chaos warband as each marine covers himself with the trophies he has collected, each one an enemy leader or some such other high-ranking opponent. The one thing that has saved both the Gore Sun's and other Chapters that have been literally moments away from engaging them in combat is the Imperial Aquila seated on the pure white chestplate of every Gore Sun. Out of combat, each Gore Sun prefers to wear his traditional clothing which considering their homeworld's varied people groups gives the Suns no uniform appearance. Though remarkably, none of the Gore Suns hate each other, and a close-knit company may even be composed of a hundred Space Marines from a hundred different people groups.
