Eliphas The Inheritor
Eliphas the Inheritor or simply Eliphas is a Chaos Lord featured in the Warhammer 40K Dawn of War Vidya geym serie. He made his first appearance in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade where he led the Word Bearers legion on Kronus and surprisingly made a future appearance in Dawn of War 2's expansion: Chaos Rising, as a champion of the Black Legion.
Eliphas started out fine during DC, he had a good voice actor/script and was loved by most as he sounded like a real sinister villain who was dickish to everyone he faced. Sure he died, but owing to WH40K's Spehss mahren fanboyism, were we really expecting him to succeed against the Blod Rehvens?
However, in DoW II, Eliphas is now downgraded. He's now a walking failure at everything he does (except for going Sindri on Araghast anyway), quite similar to a certain armless failure who can't do anything but fail miserably. Some interpret him as the avatar of the Dawn of War series, which became worse and worse as expansions went on. For others, an aspiring champion of Failbaddon, who fails just as much as he does.
Dark Crusade
Eliphas was a minor champion of the Word Bearers during the fabulous days of the Horus Heresy, and Kronus was one of the many battlegrounds in which he participated in. 10000 years later, he emerged from the warp a 'terrible and mighty chaos warlord', leading the Word Bearers in an attempt to conquer the planet and avenge their defeat upon so many centuries ago. And look how that turned out. As the Bluhd Rayvens began to close in on his stronghold, Eliphas attempted to summon a great deal of reinforcements, including a group of Khornate Berzerkers. His speech and challenge to his foes was as follows;
"Hear my words, unbelievers! Carried to your minds by the Prince of Excess himself! We have raised altars in this land, so that we may sacrifice you to our Gods! Veterans of 10 millennia of unholy war wait to grind you beneath the treads of their mighty boots! The Chosen of Khorne hunger to add you to their bloody tally! THE BLOOD GOD HIMSELF HAS MARKED THIS LAND, AND WILL CLAIM YOUR SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE! There is no hope! Lay down your arms, unbelievers, and submit to the forces of Chaos Undivided!"
However Davian Cool still managed to cut through Eliphas' forces including the veteran marines, and closed the warp gate feeding the Chaos Forces reinforcements. Due to this, an unknown Daemon Prince suddenly appeared out of nowhere and killed him for his mounting series of failures.
That is until Chaos Rising, strange how a simple Chaos Lord can reverse the judgment of a Greater Daemon and get away with it. Araghast can get away with it because he's badass. Relic then brought Eliphas back on the count of them unable to think of another character and due to Eliphas' screaming fanbase.
Chaos Rising
Following his defeat at the hands of Davian Cool on Kronus, Eliphas' daemonic spirit languished in the Warp for a number of years until the events of Chaos Rising, where he was brought back from this state by Araghast the Pillager, who wanted to utilize his 'talents' for some purpose (Though some say that he had successfully bargained with chaos daemons for a second chance) . Being the miserable coward that he is, Eliphas betrayed his master and went off to do his own thing, which was summoning a Greater Daemon of Nurgle. Throughout the game he expresses desire to turn the Blood Ravens Space Marines into Chaos Space Marines. He also seems to serve Failaddon. At the end of Chaos Rising, Eliphas is shown to be crucified like the phail-monger he is, while Failaddon enters the scene and congratulates him for outdoing the master in the epic art of phail. An ancient ritual which closely resembles ripping off Eliphas' face with the Talon of Horus.
Given how he sounds nothing like Eliphas, and let's be honest /tg/, we only liked him for the voice, it almost seems as if they only slapped the name 'Eliphas' on some Aspirant for no other reason than fanservice.
The fact that he's a Word Bearer and an Apostle of that Legion is never brought up, if you're wondering. Strange considering how much the Word Bearers love and respect said Apostles. However, in the loading screens, the issue is brought up by Thule, Tarkus, and Avitus, who recognize Eliphas from Kronus campaign with Thule witnessing Eliphas being torn to ribbunz by a Daemon Prince. Jonah then explains that Eliphas may have been brought back by daemons (or Failbaddon himself, considering why would you resurrect a Chaos Lord who miserably failed in a campaign?) due to some plan or gambit.
Retribution
Eliphas apparently channels the spirit of Araghast's badassness in this expansion. His voice has grown angrier and he seems to exhibit some Blood Knight tendencies. He gets the one liners we all know and love from Dark Crusade back too. He also screams, 'BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!' very often, implying he's gravitating to Khorne. Yes, it seemed as if Eliphas was finally back to his old self...
Of course, that's before he starts sucking the minuscule cock of Failaddon. Yeah, that's right. Abaddon is in this game. With a VA no less. He sounds like if Araghast has his massive balls torn off, but hey, what did we expect from Failaddon. His only purpose in the game is to whinge at you, and screech about how he wants Kyras dead. And that's because if Kyras sacrifices the Blood Ravens, he'll become a Warmaster of Chaos and a Daemon Prince. Realizing that his own incompetence shall avail him naught against a Librarian Devotee of Khorne, he enlists the aid of the guy who was tortured for a 1000 years for failure, instead of the Pillager of a Thousand Worlds from Chaos Rising. Fuck you Abaddon.
Even so, Eliphas is simply so much fun to play in this expansion. Hell yeah, specc him out as a Champion of Khorne with fully upgraded sweeping doom, spend all remaining points in Nurgle, point and kill. Switch on Sweeping Doom on a horde, hell yeah, everything dies.
He starts out in Typhon hunting Thule, he tracks the old bastard Dreadnaught down and takes him out to some rather badass exchange. Killing Davian Thule is however, the most emotionally crippling thing in the campaign. :( Well that, and not finding a Daemon Sword or a helmet. He goes after Kyras, killing copious amounts of shit and then takes the big-ass Daemon Prince down. Taking some time to make Kyras bow before him first before banishing him to the void. He then ascends to Daemonhood and kills the Inquisitorial forces in Aurelia. After sacrificing the Blood Ravens to Abaddon.
Excellent campaign, terrible ending.

Trivia
- He seems to be suffering from a severe case of Throat Cancer as his voice constantly changes tone.
- He also becomes far more capable as a combatant, as he is capable of wiping out entire companies of Imperial Guardsmen with a single attack. A power he swiftly loses afterwards, as he never exhibits it again.
People argue furiously over whether his Daemon Prince ascension piece of wargear is worth taking or not.Daemon Princehood is the Worst Wargear in the campaign, and in most respects is actually a downgrade in terms of both abilities, offensive and defensive power, and useful secondary effects (ugpraded Chaos Lord Eliphas provides constant morale drain, is immune to knockback/knockdown, etc; Daemon Prince Eliphas does not) in Dark Crusade.- He has equal appearances with Gorgutz, though he is the only evil character to return from the original DoW series and, so far, the recurring villain character in DoW II.
- He's either named after the first man to commit murder and to be executed in the state of New Hampshire, or some French Occultist.
