Died of dysentery was a common way to lose your shit - literally - before modern hygiene, antibiotics and perhaps most of all classification-codes. Nowadays people still go to the hospital for (say) diverticulitis but they don't call it "dysentery" anymore.

What raised this horrible and all-too-common exit from the Prime Material into Meme territory is the Oregon Trail game, which would commonly end your progress with that FAIL-mode.
