Not because of the environment. it actually is a temperate climate. Oh no, the reason it sucks to live there cause of a little celestial object called the Eye of Terror.

Because of the marauding Chaos armies that pass by, everyone is drafted before they can walk, and shoot before they can count. Then they are thrown into the meat-grinder at age 16.
