Hyperion is an all round cool dude and possibly one of the sanest psykers in the 40k setting. Known for breaking a daemon Primarch's blade, trolling one of the Imperium's most respected chapter masters, chilling with two Inquisitors and joining a legendary brother of demi-gods (not necessarily in that order).

History

Travels with an Inquisitor

Born Zael Effernetti, a low hiver on the Eustis Majoris. Addicted to flect, a psychoactive drug, Zael did whatever he could to score his next hit. It was by chance that Inquisitor Ravenor and his followers were on the planet at the same time, investigating the flect trade as part of a larger conspiracy. They came across Zael and roped him into using him as a means to infiltrate the local flect trade. It was at this time Zael's latent psychic powers came to be seen. Somehow the regular round ups of pskyers had missed him. Ravenor, unlike many Inquisitors, did not kill him without a second thought but instead took him under his wing, hoping to use his talents for his own means. He had discovered Zael was a mirror psyker, able to passively pick up messages and then resend them - just the kind of talent an Inquisitor could appreciate.

There was another reason Ravenor held onto Zael. He suspected a powerful daemon known as Slyte, which was due to manifest soon, would use the boy as his vessel and so Ravenor thought to use this knowledge to outwit the daemon and at least deny him his host. For this matter Ravenor had the pariah (non-pskyer) of his retinue keep watch over the boy with orders to kill him at first sign of daemonic possession.

Zael though in turn knew something, that he sensed that it was Ravenor's acolyte who would manifest the daemon. So faking a coma and (somehow) managing to telepathically communicate with the non-psychic blank, Zael outwitted the daemon and aided in his banishment.

Later after Ravenor was declared a rogue and a radical by the Inquisition his retinue was broken up. Zael fell into the 'care' of Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Lilith (lol what a name) Abfequarn.

Joining the Grey Knights

Seeing Zael's potential, instead of burning him alive, Lilith handed Zael over to the Grey Knights as a new recruit. After going through literally soul razing tests, he was deemed an acceptable recruit for the chapter and mind wiped of all his memories, even his original name and given a new one, Hyperion.

Geez, talk about it being an honour all you want, you just erased the poor guy's memories and forced him to join (the other option being a bullet in the head). Talk about having a hard deal.

After much training Hyperion was made a full battle brother of the chapter and assigned to be his squad's pyrokine (a master of psychic flame). A special branch of the chapter's librarians known as the Prognosticars had strong hopes Hyperion would in time join their ranks but he still had much training and learning ahead of him.

First War of Armageddon and the Trolling of Angron

Barely had Hyperion had time to warm his suit of new power armour when he and a Grey Knights force assisting an Ordo Malleus investigation discovered that a massive invasion of the important world Armageddon was planned by the traitor Primarch Angron, lord of the World Eaters Chaos Space Marines. Responding to an urgent plea for assistance from Logan Grimnar, Chapter Master of the Space Wolves, the Grey Knights teleported right into the midst of the chaotic host and directly attacked Angron and his Bloodthirster bodyguards.

What followed was a battle that alone could make fan boys weep and be worthy of a Games Workshop summer campaign by itself. Hyperion's squad battled Angron and was made into chow by the traitor and his giant black blade. Hyperion, showing what a true hero can do, stood over a wounded brother trying to protect him and used all his power to strike at the traitor, shattering the black blade and instantly earning near limitless respect points for his act. Let's remind the reader that he was barely out of training at the time and facing a foe even the other Primarchs would struggle against.

For this act he was given the cool title 'Bladebreaker' and known to make Sisters of Battle swoon in his mere presence.

Trouble with the wolves

Alas for all the good stuff, heroes must go through hard times as well (some universal horrible rule).

After the first war for Armageddon, the Inquisition decided that everyone who had seen Chaos, both the Imperial Guard and the normal citizens, were too possibly corrupted (read: eyes open up to truth) to be allowed to continue to be Imperial citizens and should be thus placed into enforced labour camps in far out of the way places where they won't have contact with anyone else.

Naturally the Space Wolves were not too happy with this turn of events and in turn decided to spirit the humans away and send them to the far corners of the Imperium.

And so began a series of increasing tense stand offs and cat-and-mouse chases as both sides tried to outwit the other, culminating in Imperial vessels firing on the wolves and the wolves striking back (twice as hard in the balls).

The Inquisition, not happy about anyone (even a respected First Founding chapter which has defended the Imperium for thousands of years and by rights shouldn't be able to touch with a barge pole) defying them, tried to blockade Fenris, home of the Space Wolves and force them to take a crusade of penance.

Stuck in the middle of this nonsense, Hyperion was forced to be one of the diplomats to Fenris, where he met Bjorn the Fell-handed and instantly became a fan boy for life. Unfortunately during this time the bulk of the Wolves returned to Fenris and proceeded to kick the ass of the Inquisition fleet above their homeworld, including killing the Inquisitor in charge trying to make the wolves submit to him (which is probably for the best since the Inquisitor was hopeless and way out of his depth). Bjorn teleported right into the middle of intense fighting in orbit and ordered all to stand down and laid down what was going to happen (he is so boss). Hyperion had been up to this point been dueling Logan Grimnar, probably trading witty barbs as they wrestle all over the capital ship.

Interestingly, on return to Titan, Hyperion reflected that he agreed with neither side of the conflict totally, seeing both sides as having flawed arguments. He tended to fall in more with the Inquisition's pragmatic approach over the Wolves' idealism but he saw how heavy-handed the Inquisition's response had been. This instantly makes him quite likeable because while he may follow orders like a solider, he is shown to have his own opinions and to realize his superiors are being dicks, thus proving he has the greatest trait forgotten about in the 40k setting, that he can think.

A higher calling

Eventually Hyperion was promoted to the Chapter's Librarius and soon began training to be a member of the Prognosticars. Enjoying a lengthy career, by the end of the 41st millennium, he was beginning to train new brothers to be Prognosticars.

And it was by then he began sensing the galaxy was sliding into Chaos and that shit was going to get fucked up.....
