The Pokemon TCG is a collectible card game based on the popular media franchise Pokemon. Originally released in 1998 by Wizards of the Coast during the great "Pokemon Craze" associated with the release of the original games and TV show. Once wildly popular, it has declined over the years. It still has an active player base, however.
How to play
At the beginning of the match both players shuffle their decks (of 60 cards) and draw 7 cards as a hand. They then put the top six cards of the deck face down as "Prizes." The players can put down any basic Pokemon they have in their hand in front of them, and any extra basic Pokemon they have behind that Pokemon on the "Bench". Players flip a coin to decide who goes first.
At the beginning of a turn, players draw a card from the deck. They can also attach one energy card to a Pokemon (which allows them to use attacks), play trainer cards (which do things such as healing and attack modification), switch out the front-line Pokemon for one on the bench (at a cost of energy cards attached to that Pokemon), or place more Pokemon on the bench. To end a turn, a player attacks their opponent's Pokemon with their own. The other player then takes their turn.
Pokemon have a certain amount of health, and once the health reaches 0 the Pokemon is removed from play. The player that defeated the Pokemon gets to take one of the prize cards and put it in their hand. The game is won when all of a players prize cards have been taken, The opponent has no more Pokemon on the bench or front-line, or the opponent has no more cards to draw at the beginning of their turn.
