Setting

Nations

There are twenty two nations split amongst nine island/continents.
Vogia
The starting nation, metal is scarce due to the war with Secondplacia. Chocobos from Vogia go "WARK!"
Nolja
Just over a bridge to the north of Vogia, at war with them. Chocobos from Nolja go "KWEH!"
Ayoro
West of Nolja, lots of refugees make their way here. It is hard to get in unless you enter through one of their underground railroads.
Magitek Empire
Located in the middle of everybody, this expansionist Empire is kept in check mostly because of the war with the Crescent Confederacy. Still, they have agents in every other nation.
Crescent Confederacy
A crescent shaped continent east of the Magitek Empire, the confederacy is really a collection of five nations teaming up to keep the Magitek Empire in check.
Alonia
A nation which used to be proud, they are now the chosen battleground of the Magitek Empire and the Crescent Confederacy; the native nation has fractured into ten small ones, who fight amongst each other and exploit the foreigners.
Holy Mandelia
An island north of everybody else populated by Sidhe. They do not let visitors enter (unless they are Espers, who they believe to be divine), and are extremely religious. The only Sidhe found outside of Holy Mandelia are heretics of the Mandelian religion.
Southern Continent
Home to elves and ancient ruins, the elves don't really like people moving in, and the ruins also actively defend themselves. The southern continent is a place of mystery, and it's also a good place to ship your criminals.
Floating Island
The source of all dragoons, this island floats in a counterclockwise circle over everybody else except for the centrally located Magitek Empire. I'll give you one guess as to how the dragoons get back up.

Races

The races are Humans, Elves, Viera, Mithra, Androids, Sidhe, Half-Espers, and Espers.
Humans
The most common race in the world. Nobody knows quite why, but it might be because some otherworldly beings favor them.
Elves
They live mostly in the Southern Continent. They are fond of ritualized combat, duels and wargames, but are more hostile towards foreigners. Either the ruins are used to their presence or Elves are who made the ruins a long time ago, but the ruins' magical defenses do not activate when Elves are near. Of course, the Elves have no interest in what lies inside the ruins. Occasionally an Elf will leave the Southern Continent and explore the rest of the world.
Viera and Mithra
These bunny and cat girls live in forests and jungles, respectively, though they tend to feel wanderlust and mingle with the other races. They never leave some of the forest behind, though.
Androids
Also known as Magitek Golems, they are rare. They are created in the Magitek Empire and while they are allowed to choose how to live, most of them continue to work for the Empire. They are not officially allowed to leave the Empire, though some have managed to get out anyways.
Sidhe
Fairies as presented at the top of the page, they resemble skinny elves with insect wings of their choice. They can Float in combat and Fly out of combat, and gaining the Float status allows them to Fly in combat. They are only rarely seen outside their island, and are regarded as a spectacle.
Half-Esper
This is a template that can be applied to any other race except for Android. It replaces the existing race's ability with +2 mp per level, and tends to attract attention to yourself, for good and for bad. They are rare but tend to rise to prominent positions; people just seem to like the idea of someone who is half-magic.
Espers
Beings who live in a world just slightly out of sync with everybody else, a world made of magic. They resemble humans, except with a glowing aura, and are made completely of magic instead of matter. They can be summoned into the world, in which case they are known as Aeons and take the form of massive creatures and monsters. They can only be summoned through the use of a magicite crystal which the Esper gives someone, though this magicite can be stolen or sold and used by other people. They also like to visit the world of matter as tourists. It is not unheard of for them to take a "normal" race as a lover. If killed in the material realm, they just get shunted back into their magical world, healthy and probably angry. Attacks by Esper made weapons can not be healed through magical means.
