The unit overview and tactica for Yu Jing's Invincible Army

Why play the Invincibles Subsection

You have been waiting, eagerly, for this moment - finally! The Invincible army has landed and it's basically what you expect: Chinese soldiers in power armour. The IA is a hard-bitten army with tough troops that can take a lot of punishment and just won't quite on you. They also have a wild array of fireteam options to add force-multipliers to a team. If these things appeal to you, then strap in and praise the Jade Emperor!

Faction features

  • Suit Up: If you like Heavy Infantry, you're in the right place. This is basically a dedicated HI-exclusive ranged army, as opposed to PanO's more CC-focused HI army.
  • Come Together: Really oddball fireteam combos in this list, which seems to be a new thing for Infinity lists these days.

Special Skills

  • NCO: Plenty of NCOs in this list, allowing them to use the Lieutenant order. Great for trolling your opponent as to where your lieutenant might be.
  • Tactical Awareness: Most HI in this list that have a special fireteam option have this fun rule granting the entire fireteam an irregular order.
  • Valor: No Wound Incapatitaion: Most models have this special rule, largely to keep points cost down. Note most of your HI have this rule instead of having 2 wounds.

Weapons and Equipment

  • Breaker Pistol: Surprisingly common in this list and your Zu Yong pack two of them. They are a very decent weapon for hitting either low-tech noobs or even heavily armoured thickies - or both.

Units

Light Infantry

  • Zhanshi: Zhanshi used to compete with a crowded field for worst LI troop. They're slightly better now being somewhat comparable to Celestial Guard with all your usual LI options (haxor, FO, paramedic, etc). Importantly it's something of a folly to spend money on any weapon options as you can easily supplement them with HI inserts.
    • Core: No surprisingly, you can form a core team with these guys. More surprisingly, you can insert 1 Hai Dao, 1 Shang Ji and or 1 Yaopu Panguling FTO into this fireteam to increase their power.
  • Zhanshi Yisheng: Your only doctor in the list. Very bog standard but also largely necessary. Keep it safe with a Yao Zao.
  • Mech-Engineers (Zhanshi Gongcheng): One of two engineers in the list, this one is the cheap one. Keep it safe with a Yao Zao.
  • Warcors, War Correspondents: WIP 13 irregular flash pulse for 3 pts. You know how these work.

Medium Infantry

  • Daoying Operative Control Unit: Your only MI in this sectorial, packs a breaker pistol and boarding shotgun which can get changed out for a MULTI Sniper, AP mines and a Minelayer. Makes a great Hacker with WIP 14 and an even better lieutenant with Lieutenant Level 2, bio immunity and camo.

Heavy Infantry

This is what you came here for, this is why you play IA.

  • Haidao Special Support Group: A veritable Swiss Chinese army knife. Shock immunity combos great with NWI! Make for a great sniper with the MULTI sniper/visor 2 option. Also not bad at being an engineer or killer hacker.
    • Wildcard Trooper: The strongest aspect of these guys is they can join any fireteam in the army - that means any duo, haris or core team. Obviously this will make the weapon upgrades that more appealing.
  • Liu Xiang Jumpy Infantry: Hilarious one-man bomber. Explode Level X allows you to drop a Damage 12 bomb once you put the model down on the table. Great for suddenly busting a core team. Best profile might be the Spec Op with a MULTI-rifle for scoring and shooting... and it has D-charges.
  • Zuyong Invincibles, Terra-cotta Soldier: For years, YJ players swore by the Zuyong HMG automedkit. Zuyong are still strong because of their double breaker pistol and solid statline; they only got stronger now that they can partake in fireteams...
    • Tai Sheng, Zuyong Invincibles NCO: Forward observer NCO character, can take chain of command. Great weapon loadout makes him an awesome addition to any Zuyong team.
    • Core: A little on the expensive side, but crazy potent. Obviously you'll have the HMG automedkit with tactical awareness and it will be brutal.
    • Haris: Not as savage as the above but also nowhere near as pricey, you have to buy the Zuyong with the tinbot B. On the upside, this one is one of the best for adding wildcard troopers into it.
    • Special Haris: As above, but 2 Yan Huo FTOs. No HMC for this one nor Tinbot C, but you will have a Yan Huo Harris with some anti-haxor countermeasures.
    • Duo: This one's also decent for wildcards or for building a strong heavy weapons platform (the duo profile comes with an HMG).
  • Shanji Invincibles: Shangji get a lot of comparison between them and Zuyong because their loadouts are similar but their prices aren't. Yes, Shangji are more expensive but they're also tougher than Zuyong and their weapon options aren't as sexy nor stand out like Zuyong do. Basically, they're tougher Zuyong that traded the breaker pistols for an LFT; like Zuyong they can also compose fireteams.
    • Core: Generally not advised. A Shangji core is hideously expensive compared to a Zuyong core and lacks the raw firepower in exchange for marginally better survivability.
    • Duo: Shangji have had the Duo option baked into their special rules long before the IA became available. Basically this one is made for the Spitfire/TA and HRL profiles.
    • Haris: A middleground option, the Haris guy comes with tactical awareness and a Tinbot B. Awesome for building, a small, potent team and you can trade out one of the guys for a Haidao.
    • Wildcard Trooper: The awesome option, take the Spitfire/TA and put him into any other fireteam.
  • Yan Huo Invincibles, Fire Support Heavy Regiment: Other armies only wish their big gun HI were as impressive as these - Yan Huo bring the noise! Standouts being the double missile launcher with Tinbot C for nasty ARO sniping and the HMC for pumping suckers full of lead.
    • Duo: rumour has it that Fireteam Duo was created specifically with Yan Huo in mind. Regardless, these two can form a formidable fire support platform that will absolutely devour your SWC and drown your opponent in projectiles.
    • Special Haris: (see Zuyong).
  • Hac Tao Special Unit: Fucking expensive and seriously dangerous. The Hac Tao gets compared a lot to Swiss Guard and Anathematics because they basically do the same things and cost about the same. Hac Tao are also the only unit in the game that have profiles with the Executive Order rule, which can be confusing. Basically, they become the lieutenant when they hit the table, the conventional approach is when the model is deployed during the game (as in not hidden deployment, not marker state, etc). Yet to be FAQ'd but worth considering.
  • Mowang Troop: Big dudes with either Lieutenant or NCO - either way, they can expend a lieutenant order. Somewhat expensive and pack some decent short-range weaponry plus a disposable weapon.
    • Duo: Resist the urge to take a duo of Mowang; instead take a Panguling FTO in that duo to help replenish the Mowang's disposable weapon.
  • Hulang Shocktroopers: YJ's loss of ninjas was sorely felt that they had to find some way to replace them - and so we have Hulang. Packing some exotic weaponry including a Mono CC and EM grenades; use them aggressively and they will go down swinging.
    • Duo: Pretty scary with their loadout, like Tanko in the JSA but with more special rules and no Frenzy.
  • Zhencha, Armored Reconnaissance Regiments: Sorry, Daofei didn't make into this one. Instead you get camo infiltrators with close range weapons and forward observer. Don't overlook them...

TAGs

  • Guijia Squadrons: Used to come up short in comparison to O-Yoroi but now that the Japanese have moved on, the Guijia is the only TAG in Yu Jing... and the only TAG in this list, too. They are otherwise competent at what they do, packing the now familiar MULTI HMG/HFT combo. The fact that they are manned is a slight detriment, but their pilot is a specialist with an LFT. They can also be your lieutenant.

REM

YJ remotes are very useful in plugging up some badly leaking holes.

  • Yaokong Remotes:
    • Weibing: Sensor/Forward Observer Remote. Has deactivator, sat-lock, and repeater all for a reasonable price. Consider it if you’re taking some sniffers.
    • Husong: HMG Total Reaction Remote. A solid, efficient ARO piece in an army with otherwise expensive ARO options.
    • Son-Bae: Smart missile launcher. Not to be overlooked considering the amount of FO options available. Can also be had with a regular missile launcher if you didn't take any.
    • Chaiyi: Cheap regular order bot with mimetism, WIP13 flash pulse, and sniffer.
  • Yaoxie:
    • Rui Shi: 6-4 MSV2 spitfire REM for 20 points and 1 SWC. One of the best pieces in the army. Combine with Assist Fire hacking program for cover/camo-ignoring shock spitfire. Carries a repeater as an added bonus.
    • Lu Duan: S4 Holoprojector L2, MSV1, Mk12, heavy flamethrower. These offer a big punch for a relatively modest price.
  • Yaopu Pangguling: Baggage Remote. Minesweeper, EVO Hacker and TR Combi profiles. EVO hacker considerably less useful in this list.
    • Wildcard Trooper: light shotgun toting baggage bot that can join any other fireteam in the list. Great for fireteams that have disposable weapons like Mowang.
  • Yaozao: lovable G: Servants.

Building Your Army

Hints and Tactics

  • Los Tres Amigos: exploit the Shang Ji and Hai Dao wildcard trooper and build a Zu Yong Haris with the three troopers. Obvious takes include the Multi Sniper/Visor Hai Dao and the Tactical Awareness/Spitfire Shang Ji.
  • Aggressive Lieutenant, Business Class: Requires a Hac Tao with Executive Order. Build a fireteam loaded to bear with a heavily armed lieutenant OR take a Guijia lieutenant and drive them into the ground. Try to get them close enough to where the Hac Tao is hiding and once your original lieutenant is juuuuust about to bite the dust, reveal the Hac Tao with an attack, who then assumes command of the army and ends LoL.
