5e actually made them fairly decent by making them basically a new archetype/magic source for the [[Sorcerer]] in an Unearthed Arcana article. Gets one Cleric Domain's special spells as bonus spells to their list, free proficiency with basic arms & armor, attacking twice per Attack Action, flight at-will by sprouting and dismissing wings, and the ability to heal themselves by casting any Domain spell. Do remember that you only get access to your Domain's bonus spells, though, not to the Cleric spells as a whole, so only Favored Souls of Life can fill the healbot role. | 5e actually made them fairly decent by making them basically a new archetype/magic source for the [[Sorcerer]] in an Unearthed Arcana article. They're far above any other Sorcerer archetype, which means they're okay at best, because the 5e Sorcerer sucks.
If the Sorcerer path doesn't suit your 5e tastes, you could always try the Undying Light pact [[Warlock]] instead, who gets a healing touch and a bunch of "kill it with fire/light" spells and abilities. | If the Sorcerer path doesn't suit your 5e tastes, you could always try the Undying Light pact [[Warlock]] instead, who gets a healing touch and a bunch of "kill it with fire/light" spells and abilities.

Think a Divine Magic Sorcerer, only with some "Totally not Jesus as a Class" features, including holy wings. Also it doesn't have good Armour proficiencies despite being totally effective in heavy armour. Can also healbot like nuts with all its spontaneous cast heals.
...This is a worse cleric. Just play a cleric. I know what you are thinking, "but I want to play Jesus, not the guy who sucks him off for power." Well, enjoy getting your ass handed to you by one of them. This is a nerfed version of the cleric.
Pathfinder ported the concept of "spontaneous divine caster" and remade it into the Oracle class, which is far more unique and functional.
