Beer and pretzels is a slang term for casual games. It is applied to the sort of game that you would play with some friends while drinking beer and eating pretzels -- light on rules, miniatures, preparation, and time, while being on the silly or fun side, and often featuring a good deal of randomness. There are many synonymous terms featuring other snack foods, like "pizza and beer" or "soda and chips".

Examples[edit]

  • Most one-page games are good beer-and-pretzels games -- their rules fit on one sheet of paper, so there's not really any room for complexity.

Another example is playing a low point game of 40k with no objectives, eating up most of your time by conversing with your fellow players.
