A seabourne Navy does appear in the fluff a few times, and both times it was under the purview of the Imperial Guard. A few regiments have been noted to be - gasp - ACTUAL marine regiments, typically crewing and fighting from their vessels in question. The ships ranged from small river trawlers, to huge command carriers and bombardment platforms.  And by huge, we mean imagine the big battleships of World War II but scale them up so those guns are titan weapons.

YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!

40k ain't a universe known for its ocean-going navy. Like most of Sci-Fi, the wet navies have often been regulated into the dustbin of obscurity, overshadowed, by their cousins in space.

This range from assaulting beachheads, to blockading geostrategic choke points and cutting off underwater communication cables.

Currently, both the Imperium and Chaos have one known seaborne vessel. The canonicity of which is a bit clouded, given the fact that these are essentially a GW collab with World of Warships, with both ships based on the World War II-era Japanese Amagi-Class Battlecruiser. As such, any stats and schematics on these ships would be based on that cruiser. W

A seabourne Navy does appear in the fluff a few times, and both times it was under the purview of the Imperial Guard. A few regiments have been noted to be actual marine regiments, typically crewing and fighting from their vessels in question. The ships ranged from small river trawlers, to huge command carriers and bombardment platforms. And by huge, we mean imagine the big battleships of World War II but scale them up so those guns are titan weapons.

Basic

Ignis Purgatio

Who knew the Imperium actually gave a shit to their seaborne vessels.

The Ignis Purgatio-Class Oceanic Battleship is a type of Oceanic Battleship of the seaborne Imperial Navy. It is commanded by Justinian Lyons XIII. He is currently engaged in battle with Arthas Roqthar the Cold, the Khorne commander of the Oceanic Battleship Ragnarok. The Ignis' main armament consists of a battery of ten 41 cm (16.1 in) L/45 guns[A 1] guns in five twin-gun turrets.

The secondary battery was to have consisted of sixteen 14 cm (5.5 in) L/50 guns mounted in casemates along the centre of the ship. The guns had a maximum elevation of 25 degrees, which enabled a maximum range of 17.5 km (10.9 mi). Six, 12 cm (4.7 in) L/45 anti-aircraft guns were to have been mounted amidships, along with eight 61 cm (24 in) above-water torpedo tubes.

One unique standout, however, is that the Ignis Purgatio's bow is armored like its spaceborne cousins. This armored Aquila could ram enemy ships with catastrophic effects, damaging the hulls, weapons and causing flooding to the enemies of mankind.

Ragnarok

More corsair than the Red Corsairs themselves.

The Ragnarok-Class Oceanic Battleship is a type of Oceanic Battleship of the forces of Khorne that is based upon the Ignis Purgatio. It is commanded by Arthas Roqthar, a Khornate Aspiring Champion. He is currently engaged in battle with Justinian Lyons XIII, the Imperial Navy commander of the Oceanic Battleship Ignis Purgatio. The Ragnarok bears a similar weapon layout as the Ignis in which its main armament consists of a battery of ten 41 cm (16.1 in) L/45 guns[A 1] guns in five twin-gun turrets.

The major difference, however, is that the Ragnarok bears the head and weapon of a Heldrake; its bow mounts a Baleflamer, which could deter enemy vessels from ramming head on to the Ragnarok as its hellish flames scour the hulls of the opposing ship.
