The Jadeborn are basically the Dwarves of Exalted. They were created by Autochthon when he found some Raksha trapped in some Jade, and decided to turn them into the Jadeborn. Capable of crafting great wonders, the supplied the Exalted with weapons and armour during the Primordial War to defeat the Primordials. After that the Solar Exalted thought they could be dangerous, so they prayed to the Unconquered Sun, who made Autochthon curse them with a Great Geas, which means the Jadeborn had to stay Underground unless a Exalted tells them to and having to do what the Exalted tells them. Soon after that Autochthon left creation, leaving the Jadeborn trapped and bound in the service of the Exalted.
Castes and Enlightenment
The Jadeborn are split in to different ways, what Caste they are, and if they are Enlightened or not.
Castes
Basically classes for the Jadeborn, what Caste they are in determines their physical appearance, abilities and role in Jadeborn society.
Workers
Basically Dwarfs. They go around building things, mining and growing food, basically providing the basics of Jadeborn society.
Warriors
Jadeborn who fight the Darkbroods that plague the Jadeborn underground. They also sometimes hire themselves out as mercenaries, usually to the Realm, but sometimes others as long as they aren't fighting the Realm. Either way, they need a Dragon-Blooded commander, otherwise the Great Geas would screw them over.
Artisans
Unlike the other Castes, the Artisans resemble Elven Wizards, or more accurately, what all the Jadeborn used to look like before the Great Geas. They also realize how bad the Jadeborn have it, but instead of banding together to try and solve the problem, they became paranoid and bitter, and end up scheming against one another. They rule Jadeborn society, however, they use their great intellect and immense crafting abilities, they waste their talents on intrigue and various self interests.
Enlighenment
Before Autochthon placed the Great Geas on the Jadeborn, they were all powerful magical beings capable of great feats. After the Great Geas was placed on them, some were affected more than others, with the spark of Autochthon being snuffed out completely for some Jadeborn. The Artisan Caste resembled the original Jadeborn, while the Workers and Warriors bodies changed as they lost most of their power. However some Workers and Warriors has become enlightened, which is beginning to threaten Jadeborn society.
Protips
- Always choose enlightened characters, unless you like playing weak characters.
- Get the Ox-Body Technique Charm as many times as possible, as extra health levels are needed against some of more powerful enemies in Exalted.
- If all your interested in is fighting, choose the warrior Caste. Otherwise play as an Artisan, as the Workers are rather dull.
- You get more out of your dots in Artifacts than most Exalts; take advantage of this!
- Unless you never plan on heading above ground, having an Exalt (either in your party or as a NPC you answer to) around is extremely helpful, since you will start taking penalties if you attack Exalts without provocation.
