It's like Dark Heresy, but with all the dark brooding angst replaced with... oh.
Adeptus Evangelion is a Dark Heresy modification designed to run games in the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion. You are not required to re-enact the original storyline, but playing psychologically broken characters is encouraged by the system.
Based on the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion and inspired by the Shinji and Warhammer40k fanfiction, you can play out all the giant robot fighting and unresolved sexual tension you want with as much or as little incoherent symbolism as your campaign has room for.
The game probably plays better when your players have not watched the show, but with its Angel generation system and helpful sidebars, even the original canon Angels can have tricks up their sleeves your players will never see coming.
If you have questions or comments, the Adeptus Evangelion IRC channel is where most discussion takes place.
Dark Heresy Base Rules
Adeptus Evangelion uses the following chapters of the Dark Heresy core book:
- Chapter I: Character Creation (Not critical but it will help you 'get' things easier)
- Chapter III: Skills
- Chapter IV: Talents
- Chapter V: Armoury
- Chapter VII: Playing the Game
- Chapter VIII: The Game Master
Version 2.5
After some time working and re-working the game system, the developers of Adeptus Evangelion decided that Dark Heresy as a base was simply not cutting it, and have decided to move away to a new system for Version 3. During this time of soul-searching, quite a few documents have been put out attempting to fix issues with Version 2. Those fixes have been put together into Version 2.5, now available in Beta version.
Why a Beta version? During the release thread (alt archive), Black Mesa Janitor pointed out that the full release will happen on May, 2012. Until that time he has instructed playtesters to give feedback on the Adeptus Evangelion Forums.
The IRC link above remains valid, and the documents for 2.5 can be found here:
Borderline Edition
The 2.5 development process was not without drama, and resulted in a variant fork with the subtitle Borderline Edition. Some of the ideas from Borderline are interchangeable with 2.5, or you could run Borderline independently. The release thread is archived here (alt archive, drama included).
Regardless, you can find Borderline Edition here, and a collection of useful links here. The IRC channel for this is #AdEvaBorderline on Rizon.
Version 2
- Adeptus Evangelion V2 core rules
- REDACTED, a V2 DM supplement
- Printable character sheet (pdf)
- Printable Evangelion sheet (pdf)
If you want to read the IRC logs from a completed game, they can be found here.
NPC Laundry List
This is a suggested/basic list of NPCs GMs should consider including. It is not all-inclusive, and some NPCs can be folded into others (i.e. Class Rep is shopkeeper).
