They look like 12-foot tall blue-skinned humanoids with vertically stretched heads and long, slender, four-jointed fingers (though one sourcebook got this mixed up and depicted them with six normal fingers on each hand). They travel throughout the planes, making a living selling magic items. They were created in [[Spelljammer]] so that you could always buy a new spelljamming helm from one of them if your ship got destroyed.

They speak "Abyssal, Celestial, Draconic, Infernal, and at least two other languages", and their favored class is [[Wizard]]. Mercane clerics worship [[Boccob]]. They are the founders of the City of Union, a [[Demiplane]] that attracts a lot of epic level characters and is like a safer version of [[Sigil]].
