The coastline of Virginia would be a glowing wasteland. Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Yorktown and Williamsburg all have military and/or historical significance. Richmond would either be totally gone or irradiated beyond suitability. With the urban east no longer in existence, the western area of the state would dissolve into militias and white supremacist/south-will-rise-again collections with the recalling of the State's national guard. High amounts of pillage and rapine to be expected until Pegasus claims the area. Afterword drafting and the return of law and order (read boots on the ground) would create a rebuilding state.

The Confederates and white supremacists would head down to Georgia and either start a power struggle with the growing Confederacy or join up and increase their power significantly (vote now on your phones!) to avoid destruction by Pegasus. Far western elements are pretty much West Virginian and would likely head over into their relatively unscathed neighbor if they saw an opportunity or had relatives to vouch for their character. Western universities like U.V.A would become bastions for scientists/militias until Pegasus captures the worthwhile areas of the state.
