Shadow Walkers are a wizard/rogue hybrid class, with elements of Shadow Magic, native to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. They are one of two unique classes featured in the splatbook "Wizards and Rogues of the Realms", and are described as a secret order of shadow magic-wielding vigilantes who seek to battle evil that conventional workers of law and order either can't or won't. ==Mechanics== ::Ability Prerequisites: Dexterity 15, Intelligence 15 ::Racial Restrictions: Human, Elf, Half-Elf ::Gear Restrictions: Shadow Walkers can only use one-handed small melee or throwing weapons, and can only wear leather, studded leather, or padded armor. Elven Chainmail is not an exception to this. They can use magic items available to Thieves, but not Bards, and whilst they can use magic items available to Wizards, they suffer a -4 penalty to their initiative roll whilst doing so in combat, as they are not as adept with them. ::Multiclassing: Due to the hybrid talents and training they require, Shadow Walkers cannot be multiclassed. Human Shadow Walkers can dual-class, but only from the Shadow Walker class, they can't dual-class into it. ::Shadow Walkers use the Rogue experience/level table. ::Shadow Walkers use a D6 hit dice, switching over to gaining +2 HP per level (ignoring high Constitution) at 10th level. ::Shadow Walkers use the Wizard THAC0 table. ::Shadow walkers make their saving throws vs. paralysis, poison, or death magic, petrification or polymorph, and breath weapons as rogues. They make saves to resist attacks by a rod, staff, or wand, and those vs. a magical spell as if they were wizards. ::Shadow Walkers have acces to the General, Rogue and Wizard Proficiencies, can purchase Priest and Psionicist NWPs for an extra slot per skill, and Warrior proficiencies for an extra 2 slots per skill. ::At character creation, a Shadow Walker has 1 weapon proficiency slot, and gains +1 at every 4th level after that (5th, 9th, 13th, etc). ::At character creation, a Shadow Walker has 4 Nonweapon Proficiency slots (plus bonuses for high Intelligence), and gains +1 at every 4th level after that (5th, 9th, 13th, etc). ::Shadow Walkers only have access to the Thief Skills of Open Locks, Find/Remove Traps, Move Silently, Climb Walls and Read Languages. They start with 5% in all of these skills, and 40 points to distribute amongst them - no skill may be higher than 25% at 1st level. 25 more thief skill points are gained at each level; no more than 10 skill points can be applied to a single skill upon attaining a given level, and no skill can ever have a chance of success greater than 95%. ::Shadow Walkers can Backstab as if they were Thieves of equivalent level. ::Shadow Walkers can purchase Thieves Cants for a proficiency slot. ::Shadow Walkers can learn spells from the Abjuration, Alteration, Illusion and Divination schools. They can only learn spells up to 4th level, and only have 4 spell slots per level. See the Spell Progression table below. ::Night Vision: Shadow Walkers have the ability to see in non-absolute darkness equal to 10 feet per experience level. ::Shadow Aura: From 3rd level onwards, a Shadow Walker can erect a shadow aura 3 times per day, taking 1 round to do so. It lasts for a number of rounds equal to his level and grants him a +25% bonus to Hide In Shadows. ::Shadow Cloak: Gained at 8th level, this ability can be used 3/day, requires 1 round to activate, and can be maintained for rounds equal to the Shadow Walker's level. It grants them a +50% bonus to Hide in Shadows, makes them Invisible in areas of dim light or worse, but also inflicts a -2 penalty to saves against light-based special attacks and weapons or spells that cause damage via light have a +2 bonus and +50% damage. ::Shadow Form: Gained at 12th level, this ability can be used 3/day, requires 1 round to activate, and can be maintained for rounds equal to the Shadow Walker's level. It grants the Shadow Walker the traits of the Wraithform spell, but renders them invisible in all save Bright Light. It also inflicts double the penalties of the Shadow Cloak ability. {| class=wikitable !Shadow Walker Level ||1st Level Spells || 2nd Level Spells || 3rd Level Spells || 4th Level Spells |- |1 ||1 ||- ||- ||- |- |2 ||2 ||- ||- ||- |- |3 ||3 ||- ||- ||- |- |4 ||4 ||- ||- ||- |- |5 ||4 ||1 ||- || - |- |6 ||4 ||2 ||- ||- |- |7 ||4 ||3 ||- ||- |- |8 ||4 ||4 ||- ||- |- |9 ||4 ||4 ||1 ||- |- |10 ||4 ||4 ||2 ||- |- |11 ||4 ||4 ||3 ||- |- |12 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||- |- |13 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||1 |- |14 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||2 |- |15 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||3 |- |16 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||4 |- |17 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||4 |- |18 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||4 |- |19 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||4 |- |20 ||4 ||4 ||4 ||4 |}
