Representing a section of Milan Missile launchers detached from the Battalion level weapons platoon and subsequently attached to company level formations, the Milan Section Antichar provides valuable Anti-tank firepower for infantry focused french commander.

2022 update: Milan spam is not nearly as effective as it was in 2018 when the original Free Nations book came out. New generation tanks like the Challenger, M1A1 and most importantly, T-80, are weapons to effectively counter Milan spam, while V2 has brought repeat bombardments to help dislodge dug in infantry. Milan’s are strong counters to mid tier tanks and light vehicles due to their cost, but it is no longer Milan beats everything. Build your list to be flexible and counter multiple threats. 

When Battlefront printed the rules for the British Milan section, the meta was warped; the days of tank battles were over. Against your tank fleet, Milans could defeat them for a quarter of your point cost and have enough bases to keep fighting. You could use smoke against Milan teams but that tied up your artillery from shooting at other things, like the Milans themselves. 

5 points gets you 4 Milans, 8 points gets you 6 milans and 11 points gets you 8 Milans. You get a free VAB for every two Milan teams. This cost makes them excellent against tank spam of T55s etc but they are going to need support to take out heavies like the T80. Their weakness is templates on a repeat bombardment and front armour 20.

Now, is this unit better than the British? It depends on how you use them, and here are the main differences. Most importantly, you can bring twice as many Milans. For 2 mechanized platoons and a maxed Milan section, the Brits can bring a total of 8 milans; the French can bring 10 in the same setup. Rally has unfortunately remained, meaning that, apart from numbers, the French dropping to 5+ morale is less horrible than it sounds. Your milans should be shooting the enemy from turn one from their foxholes. The French have a pitiful 5+ Assault, while the Brits have a VERY respectable 4+ on a 2 man base.

The MILAN system originates in France as a joint project between France and Germany to make a universal European SACLOS missile system. Being rolled out in the early 70's it was pretty damn impressive for its time, being immune to most types of jamming systems and really only limited by its range. (un)Fortunately for the French army, they wouldn't actually have much need for them until the Gulf War, so in typical NATO fashion the French were eager to ship them out as aid in other conflict zones, most famously to the hands of the mujahideen in Afghanistan, and most recently by the Germans to the peshmerga where it was indeed confirmed a MILAN could pop an Abrams (albeit an export one). In the 80s your average French infantry were organized much the same as any other NATO ally so there isn't much to be said here which hasn't already been said.
