Haelyn, also known as Halaïa and Holn, is the Cerilian god of justice, chivalry, courage, and rulership. He's the husband of Nesirie and father to Cuiraécen. He's also brother to Roele, the founder of the Anuirean Empire and uniter of much of Cerilia, and half-brother to Raesene, who went on to become the Gorgon, the Big Bad Evil Guy of the setting. ==History== Haelyn was the leader of the Anuireans and the chosen of Anduiras at the Battle of Mount Deismaar. When Anduiras died along with the other gods, Haelyn gained his patrons portfolio and divinity. ==Appearance== Haelyn appears as a tall, muscular man with hazel eyes of a kind father, short blonde hair, and a trimmed beard and moustache. He wears plate armor, carries a greatsword, and emanates a golden aura around himself. ==Worshippers== Haelyn is worshipped in every part of Cerilia, his faith having been brought by the conquests of his brother Roele. As such many associate his faith with Anuirean domination, resulting in his faith having started to wane after the collapse of the empire. His common holy days are the day of summer solstice, Haelyn's Festival, the night of which is called the Night of Fire, for countless falling stars are seen and used to divine the future from, the Day of Ascension or Godsday on 22nd of Deismir, when Haelyn and the other gods ascended, and Day of Holy Justice on 9th of Pasiphiel, when the Book of Laws, the sacred text of Haelyn's faith, appeared. Haelyn's church, once unified as the Imperial Temple of Haelyn, has split into many competing churches due to doctrinal disputes in the 15 centuries since his ascension, each with their own rites, observances, and holy days. Some work in the fields with the peasantry, others contemplate the words of the Book of Laws, some hone their martial skills, and yet others help and teach the construction of defenses and tactics. All clerics however provide spiritual guidance, perform the morning ritual to ask for his wisdom, and praise his glory. ===Dragonsea Temple of Haelyn=== The church in Suiriene. Brought to the Khinasi land by Anuirean crusaders of the Holy Order of Haelyn's Aegis and once had control in the eastern Khinasi lands, now reduced to just within Suiriene. Similiar to their parent organization and popular among the Anuirean and Khinasi populace of the land. ===Haelyn's Bastion of Truth=== The church in Dhoesone. Born from the proselytizers of the Northern Imperial Temple, they follow Fitzalan's interpretation of Haelyn's teachings. ===Haelyn's Warriors=== The church in Rohrmarch, and the only church of Haelyn in Brechtür. Born from the Holy Order of Haelyn's Aegis, its leader, Delma Fussen, brought the church to help support King Alaric against Prince Oden and his Stormlord Seerband. ===Holy Order of Haelyn's Aegis=== The church in Ghoere, Mhoried, Elinie, Cariele, and Coeranys. Originally an order of knights, soldiers, and warrior-priests of the Imperial Temple who helped spread the faith outside of Anuire, the Aegis split off only after the Anuirean Empire collapsed. While they follow same doctrines as the Orthodox Imperial Temple, they're more accepting of different interpretations and other faiths. They see the defense of Anuire as their sacred duty and doctrinal bickering is only going to hurt when it comes to fighting against the Gorgon and any other enemies. ===Impregnable Heart of Haelyn=== The church in Ilien, Osoerde, and Roesone. Born from the political rivalry that caused western Diemed to become many independant realms and doctrinal disputes with the Orthodox Temple, the Impregnable Heart is the strongest church in the Southern Coast of Anuire. They believe that the Orthodox Temple became too mired in rites and ceremonies, causing them to lose the point of Haelyn's creed. They summarize his teachings in three words: courage (to stand against a foe on the battlefield and defend one's convictions against peers), honor (meaning mercy and respect in the battlefield and in negotiations), and justice (a fair set of impartial laws allowing for individual achievement). ===Northern Imperial Temple of Haelyn=== The church in Talinie and Boeruine. The state church of Talinie had its origins with Fitzalan the Blessed, who argued that the temple had forgotten the spiritual and become too obsessed with the material and letter of the law. What the founders of the church however took, was Fitzalan's work ethic, work was a method to establish self-discipline to establish a moral life for him, and preached a message of "work, behave properly, don't be ambitious, and you'll be rewarded". Additionally, flowers became important thanks to Janna Many-Tongued, a mystic who had divine visions sometimes after smelling roses, and whose visions were collected in the Aromatic Scriptures, which became a part of the temple doctrine, where sweet-scented and beautiful flowers were to be grown as tribute for Haelyn. ===Orthodox Imperial Temple of Haelyn=== The church in Diemed. Claims to be the original church founded by the clergy of Anduiras after the Battle of Mount Deismaar. They believe that society can only function through strict rule of law, which exist to prevent people from putting their needs above those of society. To preserve this, everyone has a strict, unchanging place in society, and they must obey the rulers orders without question. Of course these inflexible views, which they claim comes from centuries of studying the Book of Laws, has caused the several schisms and rifts to form. Their rituals are all focused on maintaining the strength of the social order. ===Shield of Halaïa=== The church in Khourane, Min Dhousai, and Merasef. Originally part of the Dragonsea Temple, they stayed behind to protect the temples when the Anuirean Empire began losing against the Khinasi. The Khinasi were taken by their courage and honor, with some believing that Haelyn was present during the battle, some converted to the faith of Halaïa. While they worship Halaïa, he's considered to be a part of their pantheon with Avani at the head. They're popular in the countryside, warriors, and nobles of Khinasi, and are often found helping other lands defend themselves against foes. ===Western Imperial Temple of Haelyn=== The church in Avanil, Alamie, Tuornen, and Taeghas. The church is seen as just a means for the regent of Avanil, Darien Avan, to further his own goals, with its leader, Rhobher Nichaleir, having sworn fealty to the regent. The members of the church believe that the Book of Laws is a living document, the purpose of which is to be used as a guide for the problems of the world, not as a set of strict rules to be blindly followed. Through the book, the people can be organized to meet challenges for the benefit of all.
