'''Bigby''' is a powerful [[human]] [[wizard|archmage]] from the [[Greyhawk]] setting of [[Dungeons & Dragons]]. Part of the original [[Circle of Eight]], he was one of the first ever player characters in the homebrewed RPG that eventually grew into [[Advanced Dungeons & Dragons]]... which is quite impressive because he actually began as an evil wizard NPC, until [[Mordenkainen]] used a Charm Person spell to forcibly enslave Bigby as his underling. So of course he ultimately betrayed the group.

To younger fans, Bigby is mostly remembered for his legacy; the "Bigby's Hand" arsenal of spells. A skilled [[Evoker]], Bigby specialized in the manipulation of raw elemental force, which he used to create an arsenal of various spells that manifested hand-shaped constructs of force or energy that could achieve assorted effects. Yes we've heard ALL the masturbation jokes.

He apparently traveled to the [[Forgotten Realms]] once or twice. This allowed at least some of his spells to be passed on to the wizards of that world. Khelben Arunsun, [[The Blackstaff]] of [[Waterdeep]], met him personally and really didn't like him; he is quoted in the splatbook "Forgotten Realms Adventures" (the post-[[Time of Troubles]] setting book) expressing his disdain for Bigby's excessive reliance on themed spells, and even created his own spell - Khelben's Warding Whip - in large part to be able to counter Bigby's personal spells.

For what it's worth, he's not a ''complete'' one-trick pony... or at least, his one trick is a bit broader than the stereotype of force constructs shaped like hands.  A few of his force constructs were shaped like other things!
