==The Heresy and the Scouring== Numeration: The Vth Legion Primogenator: Gaspard Lumey Cognomen (Prior): Neverwas, Tag-along, The Butchers of Kazara, The Extras, Winged Victory. Observed Strategic Tendencies: Manoeuvre warfare, propaganda and political terror. Noteworthy Domains: Al-Sherar Sector, Dolsene Allegiance: Fedelitas Constantus (applied retroactively - their allegiance was considered unknown until 014.M31) Our past is not a curse, but a great series of lessons. We have had the opportunity to know insignificance, infamy, and suspicion, all without wavering in our beliefs. As we set sail for an Imperium riven by strife and disorder, we shall draw on that history of pure purpose. Do not just take heart, brothers, but establish your confidence on the basis of the objective truth. Antoine Antonelle, Deputy Speaker of the Legion, 009.M31 Exile to the periphery of the Milky Way was not overly hard on the Fifth Legion. They had long been outsiders among the Legiones Astartes; cut off from the Sacred Band, alternatively sneered at for their weakness then feared for their strength, mocked for softness and finally censured for actions less harsh than those of the Life Bringers or Sons of Fire. The distance from Terra was even viewed by some as a reprieve from the politics of status and privilege that was so foreign to the Void Angels' homeworlds in the Markian subsector. Yet their sojourn was interrupted by the coming of the Eternal Zealots. Aubrey the Grey had once fought as a brother to the Fifth Legion, before the tragedy of Lazarus set he and Gaspard Lumey apart. When Aubrey came to the Void Angel's base of operations at Dolsene, he feigned friendship and entered into talks. His web of lies was largely seen through, but Lumey was perhaps too trusting and let his treacherous brother depart. This kindness was repaid with a vicious attack that would have seen the Fifth's Primarch slain were it not for the intervention of the White Knight, Abdul Al-Sherar. When Aubrey retreated, he spat a curse at Lumey and promised "to kill that which you love," which the Fifth took as a threat to their homeworld. Mustering at Dolsene, the Legion made a rapid movement back to the Al-Sherar Sector. There, the full scope of the Hektor Heresy was revealed to Lumey and his officers. Although gripped by the severity of the crisis, the Void Angels did not race into the Segmentum Solar. While Gaspard Lumey and Antoine Antonelle supervised an enormous muster of soldiers and equipment in the Al-Sherar Sector, Mai Dac Kien led hunting groups against the vicious Mastodontii raiders savaging the Segmentum Pacificus. In the process of this operation, Mai's men encountered the valiant Steel Marshals and lent assistance to the crippled Loyalist fleet. Roman Albrecht and Gaspard Lumey exchanged fair greetings but would not meet in person until after the Lord-Knight's victory at Rosskar. In the orbit of Alexandri Ibirien's harsh homeworld, Lumey, Albrecht, and Onyx the Indestructible spent a day making a pact to save the old Imperium or forge a new one together. Well-aware of his own unpopularity among the other Primarchs, Gaspard Lumey pressed Roman Albrecht to accept the leadership of this Crusade. ===Order of Battle=== Headquarters * Task Force Commander: Primarch Gaspard Lumey (commanding from the Redoutable) * Deputy Commander: Marshal Antoine Elkhabar (commanding from The Light of Reason) * Naval Commander: Senator Kesh Kanak (commanding from the Resolve) Forces under Gaspard Lumey's direct command: * Legion Librarium (Headed by Jeffrey Dinola and dispersed through the Task Force) * 1st and 2nd Void Angels Brigades (6,000 Astartes) * 3rd Void Angels Marine Corps ** 3 Marine Brigades (9,000 Astartes) * 4th Void Angels Marine Corps ** 3 Marine Brigades (9,000 Astartes) * 8th Void Angels Marine Corps ** 3 Marine Brigades (9,000 Astartes) * Airmobile Reserve Army ** 6 Corps (approximately 300,000 soldiers) * Naval Task Groups ** Task Group R1 *** Task Element R1.1 "Resolve" (Gloriana-Class), "Terrible" (Retribution-Class), and escorting vessels *** Task Element R1.2 "Redoutable" (Emperor-Class), "Formidable" (Nemesis-Class), and escorting vessels *** Task Element R1.3 "The Light of Reason" (Ciban-Class), "Glaive" (Ironclad-Class), "Halberd" (Ironclad-Class), and escorting vessels ** R2 (reserve cruiser force) * Security Force ** Equivalent of 10 Army Groups (20,000,000 soldiers) First Echelon Commander: Senator Fabrice Diallo * First Army (Commander: Gabriel Naudé) ** Four Marine Corps (36,000 Astartes) * Second Army (Commander: Tahar Djaout) ** Four Marine Corps (36,000 Astartes) * Third Army (Commander: Quế Đường) ** Four Marine Corps (36,000 Astartes) * Naval Task Group R4 ** Task Element R4.1 "Téméraire" (Retribution-Class), "Triumphant" (Retribution-Class), and escorting vessels. ** Task Element R4.2 "Impossible" (Emperor-Class), "Imperious" (Avenger-Class), and escorting vessels * Naval Task Group R5 ** Task Element R5.1 "Élan" (Basileus-Class) and escorting vessels ** Task Element R5.2 "Esprit" (Basileus-Class) and escorting vessels ** Task Element R5.3 "Arrogant" (Legatus-Class) and escorting vessels Second Echelon Commander: Senator Mai Dac Kien * Fourth Army (Commander: Alexandre Awala) ** Two Marine Corps (18,000 Astartes) ** Two Army Corps (40,000 soldiers) * Fifth Army (Commander: Richard Dogbeh) ** Two Marine Corps (18,000 Astartes) ** Two Army Corps (40,000 soldiers) * Sixth Army (Commander: Augustin Caron) ** Two Marine Corps (18,000 Astartes) ** Two Army Corps (40,000 soldiers) * Naval Task Group R6 (Cruisers) * Naval Task Group R7 (Transport ships and escorts) Third Echelon Commander: Marshal Jeanne d'Orléans * Army Group A ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group B ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group C ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group D ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group E ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Naval Task Group R8 (Transport ships and escorts) Fourth Echelon Commander: Grand Marshal Marius Marie-Gaston Verdun * Army Group F ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group G ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group H ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group I ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Army Group J ** Six Armies (approximately 2,000,000 soldiers) * Naval Task Group R9 (Transport ships and escorts) ===Notable Campaigns=== *Battle of Dolsene. After disingenuous talks, the Eternal Zealots attempted to assassinate Gaspard Lumey. Thanks to the stubborn resistance of Dolsene Riflemen guarding the Primarch's compound, the Fifth Legion was able to rally and foil Aubrey's attack. The mighty Freeblade, Abdul Al-Sherar is credited with saving Gaspard Lumey's life during this battle. *Battle of Rai, 016.M31. Fighting alongside The Entombed, the Void Angels purged the homeworld of the traitor Johannes Vrach. Although victorious, the Legion suffered considerable losses, including their former leader Antoine Antonelle. The death of Antonelle at the hands of Tribulus Bercilak began a bitter rivalry between the Void Angels and the Green Men.
