== Avatar: the Way of Water == After nearly 13 years and numerous delays due to technical issues, the sequel was released. Reviews so far have mostly been positive. Special effects are spectacular as expected. Story is considered mostly rehashed or cliche but not bad. Semaj and Pocohontas Cat have kids, but they go hide with a literal water tribe when humans hunt them down. Quaritch and his buddies return from the dead as cat abominations, but remain on humanity's side and even manage to kill one of Noremac and Pocahontas' abominable children. Humans also return to Pandora in full force, as Noremac dooming the Earth with his selfishness has consequences. Also includes blatant yet sympathetic social commentary about whaling. ===Things that Rock=== *Well, one thing we can give credit to this film is that it begins with an absolutely glorious shot of the RDA using their spaceship's anti-matter engines as makeshift Exterminatus to create a beachhead; vapourising kilometers worth of blue furfags in glorious HD. *The Space-Maori's Chieftain is a surprisingly chill dude. He might be a filthy xeno, but he is less of an obnoxious self-righteous prick than the bluecats in the forests. *Colonel "Motherfucker" Quaritch is back! In blue, unfortunately. But hey, at least he returned to spank some Na'vi ass. *As aforementioned, Quaritch and friends managed to purge one of Noremac and Pocahontas hellspawn. *The water is fucking impressive. Nobody knows what kind of endangered basement dwelling programming wizard Cameron caught to make that possible, but holy crap. The water is goddamn gorgeous. Not to mention underwater motion capture. That's literally never been done before in movies. The special effects in general are all good stuff. * Payakan (aka Moby Dick in Space) is the Count of Montecristo if he was a space whale, as he executes one of the best revenges in cinema's history ===Things that Suck=== *The reasons why the humans are hunting the <s>Tulkun</s> space-whales is because they have this brain fluid that stops human aging... right... With a cost that’s apparently twice the cost of Unobtanium, I guess the mineral from the first movie has taken a backseat this time around. They couldn’t even focus on mass human settlement from Earth’s declining biosphere (Which could be solved IRL with exploiting the space resources already in the Solar System). *Said space-whales have brains more complex than us and is more intelligent than us... sure, whatever you say Cameron. Whatever you say. While dolphins and whales are as relatively smart as primates and ravens, full sapience is up for debate AT BEST. **Seriously, if these space-whales were so god damn smart, you would expect them to adapt their migration patterns and avoid the fuck out of Space Ahab and co.? *On a related point, the space-whales in general make little sense. They're ultra-pacifistic to the point of casting out anyone who would fight back against the whalers. But they're also adopted into the space-maori tribes who are every bit as warlike as you would expect and have no problems with fighting the whalers themselves. So... they let the much smaller and weaker cat people whom they consider to be family fight and die in their battles for them while they basically do jack squat. *If you expect any character development for the RDA, prepare for disappointment as they are just as much of a two-dimensional caricature as the previous film. *The human's lead spaceship this time around is called the ISV Manifest Destiny. Seriously Cameron? How on the nose can you be? What's next? The ISV Lebensraum? The ISV Conquistador? *Quaritch, we love you man, but why did you thought it was a good idea to use a single civilian whaling vessel as bait... with <u>NO</u> support craft and backup personnel to protect said whaling vessel. Seriously!? The VTOL craft weren't even out of their hangers. *The new space cat tribe are blatant Maori-expies, down to the literal Haka. Cameron... bruh... *Quaritch apparently had a son, and has now been adopted into Semaj and Pocohontas Cat's family, turning him into a god damn xenos lover. And pet cat. We are <u>NOT</u> making this shit up. Pocohontas Cat even threatens him with murder in order to get Quaritch to release her daughter, and nobody seems to react to it. *Sigourney Weaver's character apparently has a 'daughter' who is now blessed by Deus ex Machina. Oh lord, expect tons of Jesus-expies to this little cat abomination in future films. *Despite how impressive the new human base is, we barely got a 5 minute tour of the damn thing. It has one wide shot. We better hope this base is better defended than the previous one. *At the climax of the film, the army of space-Maoris just... disappeared... like bruh, the Chieftain's daughter is still kidnapped. Where the fuck was he the entire time of the fight? Did he just... fuck off and leave? *If you thought the previous film's animals were terribly uninspired, don't expect much on this film. *The movie is THREE! HOURS! LONG! And much like the first film, much of it is spent on world-building spectacle rather than driving the main plot. However, we also get several plotlines that are teased at but never followed up on (most likely sequel-bait. And oh boy do they sequalbait hard). It just drags on and on and on, and the only thing to keep you from falling asleep well-rendered but contextually superfluous visual stimuli.
