====The Long Meditation==== Upon implantation of the final gene-seed aspirants drink of the Sanguinary chalices, and meet the curses of their gene-father head on. As promoted to battle-brother their chaplain issues them two rosaries of beads. One set is of red plastek, for meditation, and one is of blackened iron, never to be prayed over and signals only their surrender to the Black Rage. The Chaplains will always have a service of prayer on the Power of the God-Emperor. And after he will lead his brothers to a deep trance of communal meditation. A brother will run the beads through his bare hands to hypnotise himself as the Chaplain begins a slow psalm of the Emperor's power. "From our rage, Darkness. "From the darkness, Light. "From this Light, Him." These meditations can take hours and even days on end should the gathered company just finished a campaign. For some even the meditation is not enough and must enter suspended animation with help from their gene-seed organs. Even for these brothers servitors will sing psalms from the Chapters cult to calm the comatose marine to prevent the Rage taking him. Before campaigns ideally the company will have these services ceased and meetings to speak of wrath and swear oaths will be held instead. In the field between engagements the squad sergeant will guide his brothers in shorter meditations, though some brothers skilled in rhetoric may be given this duty instead. Officers such as Captains and lieutenants are taught the skills to meditate alone should the need arise, but some also forgo meditation entirely to become berserkers to aid their brothers in this way.
