===Daredevil===
Matthew "Matt" Murdock is one of the more recognizable of Marvel's "street level" heroes. Raised by his single father, a struggling professional boxer known as "Battling Jack" Murdock, Matthew grew up to have an extremely strong sense of justice. He also suffered an accident at a young age when he heroically pushed an old man out of the way of a speeding truck loaded up with toxic chemicals, some of which splashed out from an improperly secured container and hit him right in the face. The chemicls ruined his eyes, but also supercharged his other senses so much that he basically didn't need them anymore. Karma in the Marvel Universe be a fickle bitch.

Growing to adulthood, Matthew found that neither his successful position as a lawyer nor his deep Catholic faith could soothe the pangs of his conscience - he burned with the need to do more to help people, and to punish the wickedness that he knew all too well was going on all around him. So he made the totally logical and sane decision to dress up like a devil and go running around at night beating up muggers, rapists and gangbangers. Also, at some point he trained under Stick, a blind martial arts master who had honed his senses to a similar level of Daredevil's through the power of "git good, scrub" - but then he found out that Stick wanted to use him as a secret agent against the Hand, a clan of [[ninja]] who were also a literal death cult, in that they were a cult that worships death and views murder as a holy sacrament, so he split.

Daredevil has never developed the personal rogues gallery of other Marvel characters, not even fellow street level B-listers like Iron Fist and Luke Cage, but he is largely considered to be the arch-enemy of Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, with one of Daredevil's most famous stories being how Fisk devoted himself to ruining Daredevil's life after Daredevil's junkie ex-girlfriend sold out Matt's identity for a hit of heroin.
