===Organization=== The Paladins Repentant operate with no reserves. To them nothing his held back, to better serve the God-Emperor. Each company operates much as the company with any other Chapter's company, except with a Commander leading 2 captains and 4 Lieutenants. Each Commander will be recalled to Enoch should Lord Commander Tyrus Umbralbane finally perish or fall to the Red Thirst, there to select a replacement from themselves. The Companies have their own Veterans, Scouts, and compisition of Battle-brothers. Newly-minted brothers are set to the task of close-support first. Learning the power of their chainsword and gene-forged muscles, and to channel their berserk nature through themselves. Their progression to battleline and fire-support is much the same as other Blood Angel successors. The Paladins' Death Company is altogether different. Constantly at the brink of the Black Rage, the Death Company is seen as an escape: to complete their duty in noblest fashion and end their struggles in one final glorious action. Brothers to whom the Meditation is no longer able to keep the Rage at bay may present themselves to the Chaplains, bearing a rosary of black-metal beads. Their brothers bow to the warriors who give themselves up. If battle will not be joined quickly they are put in stasis until the next war. Their armor is painted gold with the red cruciform wound marks of their Angelic Primarch. As Sanguinius once did they sacrifice themselves for the Emperor. ====Chapter Master Tyrus Umbralbane==== The Twin Curses of the Sons of Sanguinius do not ease as a warrior ages. For the Paladins Repentant such is doubly true, for they are held in their rage til their death. Such is the burden upon Tyrus Umbralbane's tightened shoulders. Earning his name from his zealous hatred of the Black Legion, Tyrus is nevertheless hounded by his rage, and must spend nearly all his time in deep meditation lest it overtake him. Even then the Lord Commander can never sleep or rest lest his chapter fail its duties to the Imperium. The Bane of Darkness rarely dons his relic Tartaros war-plate to stride to battle. When he bears his relic-blade against his foes he still does not give in to his rage. Each blow is calculated and forethought. Tyrus bears no great skill at strategy other than any command officer. He will often carry his tactical plans through his own application of excessive force rather than cunning. Umbralbane does not begrudge this, he knows his limitations and will bear his duty until he no longer can. In battle he is escorted by Sanguinary Guard. Bearing red armour and black wings, this Honour Guard is not to guard Tyrus's life but his soul. Should he begin to lose control his guard will rush forward to give the Lord Commander time to compose himself, and to fortify his retreat if he is wounded or unable. Tyrus is ever-vigilant to the needs of his Chapter and his soul. No other commander is yet ready to assume his mantle should he fall. Even so the Lord Commander wastes away behind the red thirst. The Reclusiarch and Chief Sanguinary priest worry intensely that he may be unable to hold on much longer. When in war his guard must attend him more every battle. After battle he is a little slower to achieve his trance. Though his body is in prime condition for his age his mind is beset on all sides. ====Recruitment and Training==== The recruitment of future Paladins depends on tournaments of various non-lethal combats. Victory by an aspirant is no guarantee, nor is recruiting both combatants of these duels uncommon. The Sanguinary Priest and Chaplain who observe these honour-fights search for many qualities. Rage, mercilessness, control, and honour are noted, sometimes more than skill of arms. For should a skilled fighter be out of control of himself he will be consumed by the Black Rage. After the aspirants are selected, the Priests inject a rage-inducing cocktail. The chaplain then instructshis young charges in the first dogmas of meditation on the Emperor. Those able to maintain calm, or at least to not give in, for 12 hours are given relief and guided to continue the training process. Failures are turned away, returned from whence they came. ====The Long Meditation==== Upon implantation of the final gene-seed aspirants drink of the Sanguinary chalices, and meet the curses of their gene-father head on. As promoted to battle-brother their chaplain issues them two rosaries of beads. One set is of red plastek, for meditation, and one is of blackened iron, never to be prayed over and signals only their surrender to the Black Rage. The Chaplains will always have a service of prayer on the Power of the God-Emperor. And after he will lead his brothers to a deep trance of communal meditation. A brother will run the beads through his bare hands to hypnotise himself as the Chaplain begins a slow psalm of the Emperor's power. "From our rage, Darkness. "From the darkness, Light. "From this Light, Him." These meditations can take hours and even days on end should the gathered company just finished a campaign. For some even the meditation is not enough and must enter suspended animation with help from their gene-seed organs. Even for these brothers servitors will sing psalms from the Chapters cult to calm the comatose marine to prevent the Rage taking him. Before campaigns ideally the company will have these services ceased and meetings to speak of wrath and swear oaths will be held instead. In the field between engagements the squad sergeant will guide his brothers in shorter meditations, though some brothers skilled in rhetoric may be given this duty instead. Officers such as Captains and lieutenants are taught the skills to meditate alone should the need arise, but some also forgo meditation entirely to become berserkers to aid their brothers in this way.
