=== Background ===

Lira was an ugly child. Fat, unhealthy and otherwise undesirable. But even then, She was a kind child, and grew into a kind young woman. She made up for her physical deficiencies with beautiful music and words. But she was also a very shy, private person. She sought greatness, but didn't want attention.

But then, one day, words of her talent reached the ears of the the elite, and she was asked to perform for them. But as she stepped on stage, a tiny voice whispered to her, from deep in her soul. It told her to be excellent, to show these people what she could do. But bathed in the harsh light of the stage, her audience did nothing but laugh and cry and scream. "Ugly! Ugly!" They shouted. Hundreds of people joined in the jeering chorus. But that tiny voice urged her to excel, and so she stepped onto the stage heedless of the jeers, fully intent to shame them all with the beauty of her performance.

Her voice fled. The shame and ridicule shredded her drive and sent her from the stage weeping. It was then that a new voice, a darker voice, gave her a choice. "Take what I offer and you will be desired beyond your wildest imaginings."

She took the offer in an instant, but said to herself, as corrupted forces worked through her, "I will never care what others think of me again."

After her Exaltation, those around her asked her a curious question. "Why do you not strike down those who displease you?"

She smiled at that and said. "I may not care about people that much, but it's a terrible waste of effort to just kill anyone who looks at me wrong."

She also at one point said: "Life is a party that should be enjoyed, and who am I to deny the joys of life?"

Under direction from the Ebon Dragon, Lira now runs something like a courtesan academy. This suits her just fine, because it lets her encourage people to enjoy themselves. But the academy also serves as a training ground for Yozi spy networks.
