==5e Revival== Dragonlance went unacknowledged by Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition for years, outside of a summary of their gods in the Player's Handbook and the return of draconians in 2022's "Fizban's Treasury of Dragons". Finally, March 2022 saw an Unearthed Arcana that gave the game some player related crunch, in the form of a Kender race and a new subclass and the announcement of more Dragonlance related books by the end of the year. The Lunar Magic Sorcerer already suggests that WotC will be taking their established 5e level of care for the lore of the setting; older fans of Dragonlance will remember that the lunar deities Solinari, Lunitari and Nuitari invented wizardry to extinguish the power of Primal Sorcery, which drew its power from the fundamental forces of creation, not from the moons. The Lunar Sorcerer does have precedent... but it's in the Cosmic Sorcerer of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. That said, there's a reason for it... and that's because it's intended to evoke the "feel" of the original Wizard of High Sorcery in mechanics, now that Wizard of High Sorcery has been reduced to just a background, alongside the Knight of Solamnia. Anyway, mechanically, the Lunar Mage starts with the features "Moon Fire", which gives them Sacred Flame (which can target 2 targets at once if they're within 5 feet of each other) as a bonus cantrip and "Lunar Embodiement", which gives the sorcerer not one, but three bonus spell lists depending on whether they're attuned to the Full, New or Crescent Moon - they choose which at the end of each long rest. Level l6 gives them "Waxing and Waning", which lets them spend 1 sorcery point to change their attuned lunar phase, and "Lunar Boons", which can be invoked Proficiency bonus times per long rest to reduce the sorcery points cost of metamagic by -1 (down to 0) when applied to spells from two schools depending on which lunar phase the lunar mage is attuned to; Abjuration and Conjuration for Full Moon, Evocation and Necromancy for New Moon, and Divination and Transmutation for Crescent Moon. Level 14's Lunar Empowerment gives the sorcerer a permanent bonus based on which lunar phase they are attuned to, whilst level 18's Lunar Phenomenon lets them use a bonus action to trigger a special power based on their lunar phase for 5 sorcery points (and free 1/day). Uniquely, the Unearthed Arcana not only grants the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, but also a series of feats that tie into them. Any character can take the feat Divinely Favored, which unlocks Divine Communications, but Mages of High Sorcery cane take Initiate of High Sorcery, which unlocks the Adept of the Black, Red and White Robes feats, whilst Knights of Solamnia can take the Squire of Solamnia feat to unlock the Knights of the Crown, Sword and Rose feats. At last in late 2022, the book Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen was released. This book starts with a summary of the setting along with several new player options including the Kender Race, followed by an adventure taking place during the War of the Lance. Players even get to fight Lord Soth. D&D Beyond released a supplement titled Monstrous Compendium Volume Two: Dragonlance Creatures, which includes the stats for several Dragonlance monsters that didn't appear in Shadow of the Dragon Queen, such as the Irda.
