=Legion Characteristics= The XIIIth legion is the legion that the least is truly known about; As everything about them involves smoke and mirrors, for every one thing you think you know about them, there is at least one other piece of evidence contradicting it. Infiltration, tactical assaults, hit and run attacks, information warfare, and deception are their strongest skills, and they make great use of subterfuge and sabotage in their campaigns, bolstered by ferocious raids and ambushes. Strategically, the XIIIth Legion always try to remain flexible, adapting to changing circumstances, and always looking for opportunities to further their aims in the big picture. They are motivated by acquiring knowledge and secrets, plotting and scheming to further their own and Tzeentch's agendas. To the XIIIth, information, perception, and words are weapons, to be wielded alongside the bolter and the sword. They have many creeds, but one of the most defining philosophies of the legion, is that the ends justify the means. This acceptance of evil to serve a greater good is corrupted over time, as Uriel, and the legion become accustomed to the methods involved, losing touch with their original purpose. Their dealings lead to an unexpected discovery: [[Tzeentch]]. Now they have no time, save passing respect for the other gods; their relationship with Tzeentch however, is wary at best. Which is partly why Tzeentch favors them as he does: he finds them so much fun to deal with, deriving endless amusement from the legions antics as Uriel guides his men, traversing the twists and pitfalls of fate laid out by Tzeentch to entrap them. They avoid rampant mutation, perhaps as a result of a bargain with Tzeentch, but also through shady deals with xenos, criminals, and non-imperials. However, they are not immune to them, Tzeentch finding loopholes in any agreement they had made with him. Any that do become mutated are sent to join the XIIIth Legions chaos warband to keep them hidden. But for the most part, mutations are extremely rare, and often concealable. Uriel Starikov's greatest, most secret obsession is to gain access to the Black Library, perhaps he hopes to find a way to circumnavigate his deal with Tzeentch, or perhaps he seeks to become a god himself. To this end, through the Eternal Zealots, the legion has managed to broker some deals with Dark Eldar and Vetrovnak among others, mostly by providing them of various safe targets to raid for their slaves. In return they give the Children of Armok access to information, tech, and other things. This clandestine invasion of the webway is why the Eldar are the Children's greatest foe - both the Eldar and the Children are engaged in a galaxy spanning clandestine war, often fighting via proxies and the manipulation of unwitting pawns in their 'great game'. You can bet that no matter what is happening in the galaxy, the Children of Armok will either know about it, be among the first to find out about it, or sometimes, be directly involved. Or maybe that is just what they want you to think.
