Hunter was born among the pirates of Bluehaven, his father a merchant from the east and his mother the merchant's mistress in the port. His father had an 'understanding' with the Lintha family, and despite the protection payments made a decent living. After a realm attack sunk several Lintha vessels, foreigners were quickly blamed as being spies. Hunter's father was killed when he came back to Bluehaven, Hunter himself left nearly destitute in the care of a mother who never wanted him. A band of pirates took him in, reluctantly, and taught him how to fight and sail. Even at the young age of 15 he was strong and agile, able to work and fight as hard as the rest. The band had some success, until they bit off more then they could chew by attacking a Realm Navy ship heading for An-teng. During the battle and subsequent retreat of the pirates, Hunter was thrown from the deck and left to die. Wounded in the water, his blood quickly attracted the attention of a pair of sharks. Summoning what was left of his strength, he vowed not to die quickly or easily. He attacked them with just a simple knife and his bare hands, stabbing and thrashing as he struggled to keep their mighty jaws at bay. He killed one of the predators. Weak and wounded, he feared the other would have its meal; but his actions had not gone unnoticed. The Unconquered Sun smiled upon Hunter and rewarded him for his bravery. In a bright flash he exalted, easily killing the blinded shark. He swam with new found strength, guided by visions to an uncharted island. Underwater was the entrance to an ancient tomb; the tomb of his previous life in the first age. That incarnation had come there long ago, hiding weapons for use in a future battle while simultaneous preparing for hopeless battle in the present. Hidden inside were relics of the first age. Meditating on this new found power, Hunter decided to forsake the greed and thievery that had been his life. Glimpses of an age when justice and honor ruled the waves revealed themselves, and he knew that age could come again. So he ventured out, applying order with brutal force and precision. Mercenary work funded his efforts and worked in concert at times, and his legend grew. Indomitable and powerful like the ocean's waves, pirates began calling him 'Wavekiller' in hushed voices. It suited him, and most importantly, it was feared.<br/>
