Two reasons, chiefly: first, there's something about playing the villains that can be satisfying thematically. You may notice that amongst Mary-Sues, cliché anti-heroes and whatnot, perhaps being the bad guy offers a break from routine. Second, the CA is ''not to be fucked with'' - they bring some SERIOUS power to the Infinity field with their voodoo tech, alien races and EI aspects (the generic CA army being the only place where you can currently field them at all).

Then, the trick is to focus on battlefield roles and then fill them: you will need a medic, engineer, hacker and lieutenant for most things and they will fill your specialists.
